Film from a Week in a Bus Pt.2

After spending the night in Los Angeles or more specifically a hostel in Santa Monica we were picked up by the adventure bus, with coffees in hand and started out for Joshua Tree. Let me tell you, I was hyped for this campgroud. So we get close to the park and check in with a ranger, someone who knows about the weather, our campsite, etc. They tell us that at the moment, the road we need to take through the park is flooded with a flash flood. We had seen the dark storm clouds on the drive in and the air felt like rain but no one actually thought we had the luck to get hit by an actual rainstorm in the middle of the desert. So while we were waiting for the flood to clear we wandered around the visitor center for a bit before everyone started getting ancy and we decided an impromptu visit to the grocery store was in order. We pulled up to that grocery store and it started to pour and I mean pouring like cats and dogs sorta pouring. The grocery store even lost power for a bit. It was magical, being in the middle of a desert that only gets a few inches of rain a year and I was standing in a downpour.

After we gathered our snacks and everyone dried off, we got word that the road we needed had cleared and we started on the way to the campsite. The drive was through the Joshua Tree forest which again, was a sight, along the way the sun started to peak out through the clouds too. By the time we made it to the campsite you wouldn't of even known it had rained. The ground was dry and thank god cause we were planning to sleep under the stars. At the campsite once we set up everyone started to scramble up the rocks like little goats and you know I was right behind them with camera in tow. That evening we all sat around the campfire talking and sharing travel stories before we all snuggled down in a massive dogpile of sleeping bags under the open stars. As I was laying there I battled to stay awake, I couldn't stop looking at the stars they were so pretty. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen stars so bright or so many stars at once. Eventually though I fell asleep, I awoke the next morning well before anyone else. I managed to scramble up the rocks before the birds even started chirpping, I really wanted to see the landscape turn orange with the morning light. The photos from that morning are towards the end of the set. I really encourage anyone if they have the chance to stay in Joshua Tree to do so, the desert holds some sort of ancient magic and beauty that really can humble a person.
