Summer 2022 Update
Added 2022-03-11 22:07:11 +0000 UTCHello all,
A little life update! I'm still in Oakland doing the same stuff, working with my farms and small businesses which I'm still in love with. Some exciting news though, I'll be spending the Summer in Alaska! This year it's finally happening, I've been trying to go up the past two years but circumstances have kept me in the Bay. I've formally accepted the job, my proposal for two other part-time gigs has been accepted, and I've secured my housing! I'm going to start planning the drive up later this weekend and get all my ducks in order so I'll be ready to go beginning of May.
I guess you probably want to know a few more details. I'll be working at this cute little cafe as a barista in Denali, I'm going to be the training barista which means I get to teach coffee, which is low-key another passion of mine. I actually have over three years of coffee experience, have been trained by 5+ Bay Area roasters, and have created speciality training programs for a few businesses between East Bay and SF. As for the part-time gigs, I'm going to be taking over and creating a marketing strategy for this same business which I'm oh so hyped for. As some may know, I've gone back to school for marketing and branding this past year so it'll be cool to put that to use and get it on my resume. Then the last part-time gig, drumroll.. I'm going to be helping shoot a cookbook! Yes folks, a real in paper cookbook! I can't say more than that for now but I'm excited!
It's crazy, if you would have told me two years ago I'd be getting into food photography I would have laughed. Even in school when I was studying photography, food photography was the last thing I wanted to get into. The detail always drove me crazy but I couldn't be happier now. I guess it makes sense when I really think about it. Between my love for food, my thirteen years working in food service, and my passion/experience in photography, all my little worlds collided.
Ohh and the last bit I'll leave you with about Alaska is that I'm going to be living in a little yurt! for those of you that don't know it's pretty much a glorified tent. You can stand in it, mine has a bed and little counter with a window, and most yurts have a thicker canvas to keep the elements out. This summer I'll be living without electricity, running water, and that beautiful 24 hours of sunlight Alaska gets in the Summer! I'll post a photo of my little home later today or tomorrow!
Until then, I hope you have a wonderful day!
