Colin Instrumental Demo : 'Sexy Groovy' (Inspiration For Close Your Eyes To See)

This shit had me cackling so hard when I found it. This was another one of the 20 plus instrumentals I made back in 2006ish right before we made On Letting Go.

As you can immediately tell this is where I originally placed the vocoder piece that eventually landed on "All Your Friends Are Gone". You will also hear some horrendous drumming ony part and some completely nonsensical chorus ideas. Like literally what is even happening there in that last part of the progression? Holy Hell LOL. This is a really obvious example of me recording drums to no music and then trying to make a bunch of stuff work after the fact. Some worked great other parts not so much hahaha. I will say that the verses are probably one of my favorite bass lines I've ever written for the band so there is that.

The reason I really love sharing these is to show that something doesn't have to be amazing from the start to end up really special. There are obviously aspects of this idea that were cool and I am happy we were able to see past the laughable sections and salvage & transform it into the rad ass song that CYETS now is. Oddly enough we didn't play that song very much until the OLG 10 year tour but I would get the best feeling on stage when we did. The lyrics are incredible, some of my favs from that record actually. Hearing all of you scream " Nothing you've ever planned on ever turns out the way you planned!" every night was just deeply ironic and borderline spiritual to me.
