"Riff1" (Original idea for Stare Like You'll Stay)
Added 2021-01-07 18:32:51 +0000 UTCWhen we all got together for the first time as a band, we all moved into a house called Linden house. We had a pretty crappy PC recording setup that we used there to record all of our ideas for what would become Juturna. When we left Linden house, the computer ended up going back to Colin's house where he recorded some more things between Juturna and On Letting Go. We never used that computer again, but we held onto it for years, collecting dust at our second house, Chubb house.
At some point we were cleaning things up and decided we should scrap the computer because it didn't work anymore, and it was just sitting there. I opened it up and took the hard drive, just in case we might later want to access anything we had in there. I have had the hard drive ever since, again collecting dust in the closets and basements of the various places I have lived since then. I completely forgot that I even had it until recently when I found it in a box. It's a very old style hard drive so I searched for a special adapter that would allow me to plug it into my laptop and have access to the files. Unfortunately the software we used back then (protracks) doesn't really exist anymore, at least not anywhere I could find. So I don't have direct access to the recording sessions, but I do have access to the endless amounts of disorganized folders and files containing audio clips.
Ive been going through it all and found this little clip that is dated July 13th 2004. This is something that Colin put together way back at the very beginning of the band. I don't think I had even flown out here yet. I also don't remember ever hearing it before it became an idea that we worked on while writing Blue Sky Noise. My memory is also kind of shot, so maybe we all listened to it and decided it was more of a 3rd album kind of song.
