Putting up the Star

To be honest, I really needed to create something today just to help me feel better. At around 4am this morning, a guy tried to break into my house by kicking the door. Thankfully, I was still awake working, so I was able to keep the door shut while my wife calmed our kids and called the police. The guy was arrested about ten minutes later, and when they took statements, we learned he wasn’t just after our place; someone down the street had already called the cops after their door was kicked in, and there were several other homes hit, including my elderly neighbor who has a heart condition.

I like to think we weren't in any actual danger. The guy was, as we say in Scotland, "Aff his tits," totally out of it (and not from weed, he was definitely on something stronger), and he didn’t even realize he was outside without a shirt in freezing -4 degree weather.

"In the end, everyone is okay, no one got hurt, and aside from a dent in my door handle, everything is secure. The only good part was when he kicked the door so hard that he fell over and hit the pavement, screaming like a banshee. I hope he broke something...

Anyway, we’re all safe, but I won’t lie, it’s definitely shaken us up a bit. I think we’ll be locking the door a lot more often from now on.
