We bought our mobile home. Illia has nowhere to retreat!

Dear patrons, a long-awaited update. As you might know from our earlier video on YT we decided to move into a caravan. It will allow us not only to save time and money but later, when we'll move into our renovated house, to value the possibility of having one room for each family member and 2 bathrooms more :-)

In this post we would like to share with you some pictures, the story of finding the caravan and how much it will cost us. I'll try to keep it sweet and short, I promise.

I still can't believe in our luck: we found it very quickly and for a very reasonable price (the unreasonable comes later). We were very relaxed while browsing through all the ads because we still had lots of time ahead of us. Our first appointment to tour the caravan was a disaster, the seller didn't show up and didn't even bother to call us. So I decided to look for another one and tried to get an appointment immediately. And here the luck was kind to us. The lady just posted an ad on FB and the first buyer couldn't make it to the agreed time and cancelled the tour, so she invited us instead.

We immediately saw the great price/quality value. The caravan is old and needs some love, but the family was living in it during their renovation and also during winter (important fact!). We don't have to worry about not working facilities, mold, insulation... They renovated all the important things: the pipes, wiring, installed new boiler etc.

They were asking 2600 euro for it and it was below the market price, because they wanted to sell it quickly. So 2600 euro for caravan and...

and now to the unreasonable. How much do you think you pay to transport the 3,5m x 12m caravan (30 minutes drive from one place to another)?  I thought 500 euro, Illia doubled the amount. But in reality, after getting 3 offers from 3 different companies, the amount will be between 2200 and 2800 euro.  We will pay, no other options are available, but man....   isn't that crazy?

In overall it's a great deal and I can't wait to to see it standing on our backyard.  We plan to move in in April/May, so we will have enough time to renovate it and Illia will have enough time to get used to the height of the ceilings 😀 We also plan to renovate one of the outbuildings and turn it into 2 additional bedrooms, but we will share more about our plans in the upcoming videos.

We'll get it delivered on the 12th December, so fingers crossed I'll be able to post here some pics of the caravan standing on our land on that day 🙊

Thank you, Joe ❤️

I’m excited for you all! Best of luck from Kentucky, USA.

Thank you! The kids will continue going to the schools they are going right now. It's 30 min drive from the farm, not a big deal. And also our work is near the current schools, we would need to drive anyway. Probably no home office anymore :-(

Marina P.

Congratulations! On-sight is best. How are the schools in that area? We tried to not move our children too much. Looking forward to your future! Hugs from Washington State, USA

I fantasize about you cooking a meal in your beautiful château kitchen. Creating a channel about cooking foods in at authentic château kitchen.

Yes, I can't wait to move in into a caravan. It will feel so good, finally living there. Even if not yet in the house...

Marina P.

Great purchase and very helpful to your project. You can save money on renting and also save time and money on driving back and forth. Excellent plan! Anneke will have to inspect it, of course.

All built in stuff — yes, will stay. Probably sofa and table also because the previous owners don’t need them anymore and for us they will serve well because our current furniture will not fit into the caravan :-)

Marina P.

does it come furnished?

Yes, I was told that kilometers and distances doesn't really matter, you pay for taking it from previous owner and placing on a new place. And ours is not the easiest because we have rather narrow road next to the barn.

Marina P.

I agree, we will get much more things done.

Marina P.

Thank you!

Marina P.

Agree!

And I am also worried about Anneke. We have 2 cats in fact and they come along nicely. But they don't like other cats. And Anneke is the same, she also doesn't like other cats. I hope we find a way to introduce them to each other.

Marina P.

Yes, and I think the rules for the transportation became stricter, now you need to have an accompanying special car as well. But ok, we have no other choice.

Marina P.

LOL such a nice projection! Honestly I don't think this project will ever come to an end. I guess when we finish in several years, it will be time to start over again 😊

Marina P.

Another stage in the adventure. Imagine how disappointed you will be when this project is over. :) {You share a glance after pouring your first beer in the completed home. In unison you both mutter "Now what?"} Maybe I am just projecting...Cheers!!!

That is great news!!

I’m so happy you have a nice place to live - it must be a huge relief! Yes, I know the cost of transport is outrageous but there probably aren’t many companies that do this so there’s very little competitive pressure to keep prices low. There is also the issue of fuel cost, which is crazy expensive. I’m most happy for Annika because you will be living there full time - I just hope she gets along with your other cat.

It will be cost effective to live onsite (on the farm) so u can put all ur money to greater use. Great idea buying a caravan♥️😊

Janet Tarantino

It’s adorable! Congratulations! :)

Dan & Jo

Great purchase!!! So much easier to live on site while renovating.

Peggy Casey

It looks fine but the cost of transporting it could be more than the caravan cost! That's insane, you could spend twice as much on one in the next village and still end up with a bill of €2000.
