It's growing! The first flowers are about to start blossoming. Definitely the rains last days are not only our curse but also our blessing. And it will be a stunning variety of flowers, I must admit. And I am determined to identify each one of it LOL
The first one that started to blossom is buckwheat. When I was a child, it was my favourite cereal. Funny thing I learned recently that it's not even a cereal (it is called pseudocereal due to high starch content). Despite its name, buckwheat is no related to wheat, and it's not even a member of the grass family. It's related to sorrel, knotweed and rhubarb.
Buckwheat establishes very quickly (what is clearly seen on our field) and suppresses summer weeds. It's used as a "green manure" and as a plant for erosion control, or as wildlife cover and feed.
The malva (or hibiskus) that Illia saved a couple of weeks ado is also doing pretty good. It has lost many leaves and flowers but the one that are feeling great. So I expect that next year it will be in full health and blossom again :-)
