Usually I leave out the rough underlay, but as I tried to add texture to the ancient ruins I realized the rough sketching underneath did it better, so this might be the first time I left it in.
I looked at some pictures of cliche safari explorer gear and copied the ridges on the hat-helmet thing. I never noticed those before from memory.
At first I left the nails blank to paint them later. But after looking at my own nails there wasn't much difference in color to my skin. This is the same with many anime. I felt the outline of the nails were enough to pronounce them so I just made the nails the same color as her skin.
The last minute touch I did was add shadow to the artifact because without it it blended into the floor. The shadow helps it seem more like an actually object.
This girl's character design is a fusion of Nagato Yuki from Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu and Ayanami Rei from Neon Genesis Evangelion. She has Rei's red eyes and Yuki's everything else.
The shadows in the background architecture conveys that this place is big, old and empty. This is a nice safe setup for a possession scene. The setup is very important. If the setup seems strange then that throws off the whole audience's belief that this could happen. It has to seem plausible in some capacity.
