Help us decide: which radiator should warm our home?
Added 2024-12-14 18:27:11 +0000 UTCHi patrons! Finally we’ve reached the point where we need to choose the radiators for our home. We need to decide now so that we can determine where the pipes should go.
As we mentioned, for the ground floor of the main building, we want to create a more classical style, which is why we’ve chosen reclaimed radiators cast in the beginning of the previous century.

Fun fact: they were designed by American Radiators Co. and shipped to Belgium, where a local company is restoring them. Who knows, maybe they were part of the famous hotel in Washington?
I won’t reveal which option we’re leaning towards yet, so you’re not biased by our preference ;-) Both options are full of character and charm, which makes it extra hard to choose. Please ignore the colours for now.
Option 1: St. Louis 3-Column Radiator (a classic design dating back to the early 1900s)

Option 2: Rococo 3-Column Radiator (designed between 1895 and 1918 in Chicago, very popular model)

The St. Louis is a little less busy and a better bridge between the history of the house and the modern elements you're bringing in with the renovation.

2024-12-15 08:45:05 +0000 UTCIs there a cost difference? I like the more elaborate rococo style.

2024-12-14 22:04:05 +0000 UTCThe rococo because it is rounder and optically fluffier.

2024-12-14 20:26:28 +0000 UTCExcellent! You considered everything I would have looked at. In the abstract I like the grey better than the tan color, but I do not know what colors you plan to have on the various walls. You always choose a good combination.

2024-12-14 19:08:01 +0000 UTCAlso we are lucky since they have these radiators in different heights - for the front windows we would need 70 cm and for the bathroom and the back window - around 1m.

2024-12-14 18:56:02 +0000 UTCYes, we did the calculations according to the heat output we would need for the rooms downstairs. And the number of sections will be the same for both types. We will place them under the windows. Only in bathroom next to the window.

2024-12-14 18:52:50 +0000 UTCDo you have any idea whether they transmit heat with equal efficiency?
