Really though? Didn’t Joseph not care about Jonathan’s relationship with Zeppeli? All we really know is that he cared about his grandma because even when he rescues speed wagon he says that it because he doesn’t want his grandma to be sad. It depends on your definition of family I guess since his grandma was the only one blood related to him at that point. But obviously he might have learned when he grew older but of the personality we do see not counting part 3 because it’s after josuke was born, it’s not COMPLETELY out of character. I do think it’s unexpected of Joseph though.

Joseph’s main point of his entire character is loving his family. And regardless of if you think it’s in character or not, the idea about it being a mere writing choice due to the fact that part 4 took place in 1999 is the most obvious answer.

So we’re here. So I’ll explain more about the whole Joseph situation This is one of the number one things in the series that can be labeled as an..interesting writing choice and not a reflection of the character. Because it is-, cheating is..Incredibly ooc for Joseph as it was shown countless times through part 2 and 3 that family is his number one. He is always willing to sacrifice everything for family, and that is one of the biggest parts of his character. So yes, this makes no sense. My take is that because part 4 was written in the early 1990’s it was expected that Araki didn’t want to write the part too far into the future for the jojo to be jotaro’s kid, as writing the near future a few decades away can be troubling as it might not age well, so he settled on 1999, still in the future, but only by a few years. On top of that, it’s likely that he also wanted to keep Jotaro in his prime for a bit longer. Given this, he had very few options as to what to do with the protagonist of 4. Which is likely why he went this route, despite it being very out of character for Joseph. But don’t worry, just keep watching the part, I promise the matter isn’t handled poorly despite it being an odd decision.

The whole Half a second time stop thing wasnt anything that Josuke has. You missed it but Jotaro just said "I haven't used time stop for 10 years, but i was able to pull it off for half a second." Essentially saying that he hasnt trained in it and that he is nerfed from how he was at the end of Stardust Crusaders. It also provides a PTSD perspective because of course he wouldn't use the power that killed his comrades, using anything but star platinums regular powers must be hard on him.

This is a fun part I think you guys will enjoy it. The reason the art is so different is that the manga artist Hirohiko Araki started to drastically change his drawing style during this part of the manga. I believe he said at the time of part 1-3 he was really into American action movies and was basing everyone on Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger but that he kind of got over that.
