2024-01-30 04:13:56 +0000 UTCOk, because no-one else has gotten it: Momo's outfit is a reference to Usagi Yojimbo. Which makes sense because it's a comic book series about a Rabbit Samurai. (They both got them ears :P) It's still ongoing, and started in the 80s. I've never read it, but I've seen it in plenty of Geekdom-shops ^^

2024-01-26 08:03:00 +0000 UTCI have BONKERS insomnia sometimes, and as someone who has been unable to sleep a wink for up to (and just over) four days straight before, I'll say I have ABSOLUTELY hallucinated stuff as wild as this. So as silly as it is (and aside from the humor being much-needed for the stress all the other plotlines are bringing), it's weirdly realistic in that way! Fun fact: Being awake for even just 20 hours can make your brain start to act exactly like it would if you were drunk. Lack of sleep don't mess around!

They do a lot of subtle development for Zuko and Mai's relationship in the subtext of their conversations that I'm just simply amazed by how mature it presents itself(something Korra UTTERLY fails at. They didn't have the same writers, sadly) Point being, Zuko and Mai's relationship isn't perfect. In fact, the show seems far more aware of how a potential audience might be questioning the depth and validity of of their relationship, and is presenting it here as almost superficial, but with a potential to be much deeper. For a small example, I just love the conversation they had about the meeting, the... brutal, inadvertently insensitive way she brought up "what happened at the last meeting", and as she watched him draw back and emotionally shut down she was at a completely loss for how to breach his wall. She clearly WANTS to be a refuge for him, to offer him some peace of mind, but she's just as clearly fumbling, and it's totally justifiable given what we've learned about her upbringing and emotional cadence. She clearly can't yet be that the way Iroh or his mother was, but I think Zuko still appreciates her presence, after all, she's really the only one he can think of that's truly still in his corner right now. And straight up, I think it's beautiful that she's willing to just sit with him and let him mope himself out without talking down to him. She's hearing him out, she clearly cares, and she clearly doesn't mind the time spent even if they aren't properly enjoying their time. Giving the people you love a peaceful spot and presence, especially when their head is splitting with frustration, being patient... Just please, more people like this, yeah? God, this show, still a 10/10. I just see more to love about it every time.

2023-02-28 18:25:11 +0000 UTCI believe that the thing with Aang's Avatar state is because Azula technically killed him in the Avatar state and disconnected him from all the other Avatar's but they brought him back with the magic water. That's why, when he was freaking out, he didn't ask Roku or other Avatar's for help.

2023-02-28 15:17:25 +0000 UTCSo not sure if you're aware of this but your Avatar experience will be able to live on even after Korra because Nickelodeon and Paramount+ have invested in a dedicated studio for the Avatar series after it had a large popularity resurgence during 2020. Best to not look at the timeline for what they're making for now as it will be mild spoilers for where you're at in the show.

2023-02-28 14:08:31 +0000 UTCI love the nightmares in this episode--they're all about the fear of being unprepared, and they're the sort of thing a young viewer would identify with. Then we get a glimpse of a more serious nightmare later on which shows his terror at the thought of his failure causing his friends to die, and the world to be destroyed. It's much more genuinely frightening, and helps older viewers connect with Aang's anxiety (Aangxiety huehuehuehue) in a way that the more comedic nightmares wouldn't. I think the only dream episode I like better in any show is the episode Restless from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, though that one has the benefit of being geared towards an adult audience.
