Legend of Korra Ep 10 (Book 1)

ah hell no he did not just redirect it like that

Legend of Korra Ep 10 (Book 1)

Comments

The lightning redirect did not minimalise shit. 1. Peace of mind is required to summon lightning, not redirect it. Zuko struggled to summon lightning, so Iroh taught him to redirect it instead, which any firebender can do. Afterwards, Zuko never performed it untill invasion because he never got a chance to, since nobody shot lightning at him. Zuko redirecting Ozai's lightning was epic, but not because of "a sign that he achieved inner peace". 2. Azula was sure as fuck not at peace of mind at the end of Avatar, but she still could easily shoot lightning, when she used it during her Agni Kai vs Zuko. This tells that inner peace is needed to LEARN to conjure lightning, not actually use it. Once you learn it, you can use it as normal. 3. You forget that this show is set some time later than Avatar. In Avatar, lightning bending seemed to be a special type of fire bending only known by the royal family. Clearly Zuko changed that by sharing the knowledge with the world. As time progresses, of course, arts that used to be rare and sacred become more casual and menial. To conclude, stop comparing this show to Avatar. Legend of Korra is not Avatar the Last Airbender and saying that LoK sucks because AtLA was perfect does a disservice to LoK. It is its own show, with its own identity with a backstorry from AtLA. It is not as good as AtLA, but that doesnt make it bad.

Redirecting isnโ€™t what required emotional balance. Generating lightning requires you to separate the negative and positive energy within yourself. They donโ€™t have to be balanced. Zuko could redirect lightning at any point after learning it, he just never had the opportunity to.

Markus Bryant

The ranting had be chuckling - There's absolutely no emotional balance required for redirecting lightning, it just requires the firebender to know the forms to create the appropriate pathways to channel the energy without dying. Generating lightning was the issue Zuko struggled with due to his emotional imbalance - But he was also completely untrained in generating lightning prior to that. Azula was mid-breakdown and still firing off lightning probably because she had the experience already. Mako is a talented firebender with plenty of experience generating lightning and there's no reason to believe he's not experienced at redirecting it too. I like to think that after Zuko became Fire Lord they basically dropped the veil of secrecy around the advanced techniques (which is very common in Eastern Martial Arts) and just let the knowledge become widespread to the point that the younger generations have a fairly easy time picking it up. Plus with it's industrial applications it's bound to become widespread simply because the power companies need it. P.S. Mako do be sucking though - He gets better later on but yeah he's my least favourite of the four team members.

ayo it's the mako defender again.... The redirect thing they weren't using lightning that can kill the world has changed before lightning can only be acquired naturally so if that would course through your body you're probably going to die where as there using a voltage that isn't even enough to burn you and I personally don't think that scene was all that cool it was quick and seemed like a way to just show that it's possible to redirect it so they can do it again later. Also mustache dual wielding lightning stick guy has always been there you just never mentioned him lol

BornUnMotivated

Yeah, the way this show handles bending is the main thing that irks me about the writing and the thing I hope gets fixed first if they make more

Ranginald Vagel

It's cool that the advanced fire bending is lightning bending and blood bending is advanced water bending same as metal bending to earth bending. But are we going to ignore the fact that this little bald baby just Inveded a new forbidden form of air bending? THE FART BENDING?! (sorry if it was already a thing, I'm watching for the first time with Alicia and I might have missed something). Also "We need your babies to have babies and this is the only way for us to have more babies" is the most Alicia sentence out there.

Rat#394

EYO! Iroh's jawline is fucking niiiiiiccceee!

Mojo

I see a lot of people of pushed up their glasses and did the "Actually" talk about lightning bending, also yeah the re directing scene was a dis respectful to Zukos evolution as a character, but then again we're also in the future so maybe like metal bending it became a normal skill to have. Also I swear every other episode had Among Us or a JoJo reference in it and I am here for it XD Yeah still not the biggest fan of the romance but hey-ho I'm sure it will get better...I hope. Thanks for the upload Queen <3

Joey Cat

It definently is weaker it only stuns but in ATLA real lightning bending is lethal if not redirected, Even zuko almost died with a partial redirection during the finale.

Jonathan Canfield

So idk if you'll read this since it's been a day now but, on the point of lightning bending. If you use azula as a basis. Even after she was having a mental breakdown at the end of ATLA, she was still able to lightning bend unless she was still at inner peace at that point lol. So I don't think you still have to be at inner peace once you learn how to do it. So mako could've learned to lightning bend at the point in his life where he was at peace with himself or that in his period of time, inner peace isn't necessary anymore.

RamenRay

Alicia, the act of redirecting lightning was specifically only a massive deal for Zuko, as he COULD NOT find the necessary peace of mind needed to create lightning. The perfect example of this, is that Aang has redirected lightning, but instead of it being about him being balanced, his moment was one were he had to consciously choose not to kill.

Nemasis Demarini

My personal theory is that the Equalist electricity is easier to bend than lightning. Otherwise that is BS

Dr. A

Korea didnโ€™t do anything wrong. A ton of people misinterpret scenes and words in avatar.

retsubkrod

Aaaaand she is starting to get why people dont like LoK as much, it just doesn't stay in its lane as much as it should

VJ Sins

Along with a certain villain and some retconning, agreed.

I would like everyone to not remember that Mako can redirect lightning, but that Meelo can Fartbend. and that Rohan got reincarnated from JoJo into Korra

Kaz

It does feel like there was some element of "we have a female lead, and stories with female leads require love triangles". It's easily the worst part of Korra, whereas seasons 3 & 4 are the best.

Brett

Mako is at his best when he's a single man. Honestly this show is at it's best when Mako is a single man.

Donny Smith

In addition to what everyone else has said about lightning, I will add that Zuko was the second person EVER to learn how to redirect it. Iroh invented the technique, and Zuko was the first one he taught it to. It was special and meaningful for him. Now, 70 years later, it is more commonplace, as more people have been taught the technique over the years. I feel like the writers did Mako dirty with the shitty love triangle. Yeah, I get that they are angsty 17-19yo teenagers, and not good at romance, but they really wrote Mako worse than he should have been. He's not that kind of guy. He's reliable, loyal, and compassionate, and his relationship bullshit was, IMO, out of character and just plain bad writing, trying to make drama where none was needed.
