Legend of Korra Ep 12 (Book 1) Finale

:D we powered through this season! I had such a fun time. I for sure see the ups and downs with the series but it's honest just a fun watch.

Legend of Korra Ep 12 (Book 1) Finale

Comments

I hope you are going to continue watching this show. It really is a fun show to watch, and definitely a good one, even if not quite as good as AtLA.

MaxValion

i really hope you continue the series! Korra was my favorite series growing upand i'd love to see you react to the following seasons

Mune_Lite

the whole show is good but files like the script code yous a northern pass and if you compare Korra to Harry Potter or Luke Skywalker the only thing that makes her a Mary Sue and them not is her gender. Anyone who calls Korra a Mary Sue is just upset that is not socially acceptable to rag on her for being a woman and black.

MrBogThing

she said shed watch the rest on her own because of comments on youtube. idk how its been on here, probably roughly the same guessing since theyre not just exclusive on youtube. people just expected her to absentmindedly love the show like avatar or like them but she doesnt. she rightly calls out all the flaws of the show, though granted she gets a lot of info wrong as well.

mitchhamilton64

Did she drop Korra? :( NOOOOOOOOOO I subbed for avatar and thought you really enjoyed it....

Energy Bending is a spiritual thing that literally siphons away ones bending power. Meanwhile the Bloodbending method is physical - it's more like a permanent chi-blocking move.

Depressed Duck Daddy

From what we understand it, Amon's bloodbending is mixed with the Chakara teachings of Guru Pathik from Avatar and Tai Lee's Chi blocking abilities. the Guru said that if one of the Chakaras from a person is blocked, they wouldnt be able to access their "Spiritual side". with tai Lee, she is able to physically cause a person to seize up when she hits a person on their body, making them stop bending. from what Amon is doing, he is using his bloodbending to "seize" up the chakara point on the forehead, either to block that point or to imitate Aang to show he "does" have the same energy bending ability. with the chakara point seized up with this advanced form of "Chi Blocking" Amon made the illusion that he has this magical power of taking away a person's bending. I'm sure if another Bloodbender of equal skill and power could undo the damage he's done if they knew how to do it.

Im not seeing many of the "toxic comments" when im looking, but I can totally see why it happened. Episode 11 its like she just switched up and started looking for reasons to hate the show.

Zeallust

Mako gets shafted in Books 1 and 2, but becomes a better person and character after that

Zeallust

Thank you for reacting to at least the first season, it was a lot of fun to watch ! I really hope you do come back to this series at some point. Haven't looked much at what the other commenters have been like here, I hope they didn't hurt the experience for you. Really love Korra's character, she's so human and relatable. Even though she is very powerful and talented I think she seems like way less of a Mary Sue than Aang was (not a knock on Aang). Seems like people are much quicker to judge a female character as overpowered than a male character. The writers left a lot of things to inference that they didn't have a lot of time to spell out, a lot of it done more with dropped hints than directly showing or telling. They could have done better with this on some points. I think we all hated the relationship arc here, but I appreciate that we were meant to dislike it. The original audience was older when this came out and they did a more mature/real treatment for a lot of topics, in this case it was showing an unhealthy relationship between main characters, which in a way can be a more interesting topic to address than an idealized fantasy relationship. Mako grew up on the street with no parents and dealing with gangsters, he didn't exactly have positive role models, so it would be unrealistic for him to be emotionally healthy boyfriend material. They show lots of firebenders this season, but only a handful of people actually bend lightening, so it's still not something that just anyone can do. We don't know the background of the few other people at the powerplant we see doing it, but the other two shown are the number one mob boss in the city and Mako, who is a famous professional bender. Mako is literally the bending equivalent of a pro athlete in our world, but it seems like a lot of people don't want to give him much credit because aspects of his personality are garbage. The father turning on Asami like that seemed too disconnected from everything leading up to it. That one needed a lot more leadup than it got. Thank you again ! | : ] '

but this is what confuses me tho bc if amon uses bloodbending to block the chi points wouldn't katara be able to just unblock them instead of aang doing it

Jayshawn Robinson

Yeah, on Twitter she mentioned that she's dropped Korra. I kind of wish she'd let people know what's dropped (kind of like she did with Nier), but I think the toxic fans that got her to drop the show would make her life harder.

Shadowsofpain

This. A friend once laid it out as: "Amon's blood bending is putting a cork in a bottle. Aang's energy bending is just making the liquid vanish from the bottle."

Bologna Amputation

Have you dropped Legend of Korra all-together? I was looking forward to experiencing it with you 7 seeing your reactions, especially to seasons 2 & 4 I hope you'll still upload your reactions to Patreon ❤️

an8bitbatty

Huuuh…. Goooood point

Crome221

I think amon is weaker than his father so comparing the 2 fights is hard his father didn't even need to use his arms to bend where amon needed to. Also korra at her age does seem like a much better bender than aang was but I could be wrong.

BornUnMotivated

Hey glad you've taken a liking to the show. Hope you enjoy the rest of the seasons of TLOK. Because despite some flaws here and there, this show is fun. That and I remember too, but I once read a quote about this show --Avatar the Last Airbender, is a show about a peaceful person living through a long war and who never wanted to be the Avatar in the first place. The Legend of Korra is about a warrior who lives in peace times and has always loved the fact she is the Avatar.-- At least something along those lines. Either way can't wait to see more, and hope you have the best days ahead! 🙂

So I learned a pretty dark fact recently about this episode and that is towards the ending, and what aang had said. He had said, "when we reach are lowest point we are open to the greatest change." At first I thought it was because she lost her bending. But a comment to a reviewer of this season actually explained this scene in away that I find both dark and interesting. They explain saying the reason why Korra was at the lowest point was because she was actually thinking of throwing her self off the edge of that cliff. An the reason being is: She understands the world needs the avatar someone who can bend all the elements and remember the rule: if the avatar is killed in the avatar state then the cycle ends. So it stands to reason she would do this knowing full well that she will be reincarnated into a new avatar someone who can bend all the elements. But I do understand why people would think this to be wrong and I thought thid too until I went back and rewatched the episode and it was part with the tear falling off not only off her face but also off the ledge of the cliff. With this in mind remember how they show that tear falling off with two camera angles of this tear one with the tear rolling off the face. But then it cuts to an angle to where we see the from a top down perspective the tear and how it is slowly falling down to the bottom. An if watching too many shows have taught me anything that being if the show is making a point to show something in multiple times or even linger on a scene for a while then it is serving a purpose. The purpose being it is giving us a symbolic representation of her falling off. Watching that seen with this in mind makes it this scene so much more impactful and showing how much Korra cares about not only the image and the legacy of the avatar but also how she cares about the safety of the world. She cares some much knowing it will cause her death she is willing to in order to be reincarnated into avatar who can protect the world. An it only shows her selfless ness and how much she has grown. I wanted to post this because I really found it interesting and thought provoking. Also I love your reaction and I'm glad you are enjoying this show as much I did grow up and watching it.

i honestly think they didnt expect to get a season 2 so S1 wraps up stupidly

Crow

One of the things I really dislike about S1 of Korra (and future seasons, to some extent) is that almost none of the power she gains feels properly earned or related to learning a lesson, it's just something that the show basically gives to her for free after she's suffered enough. Instead of having her airbend as a result of realizing that brute force is not always the best solution, they give her airbending so she can brute force her way out of yet another one of her problems. When Aang was learning earth he really had to internalize the philosophy of earthbending and be willing to act in a way that went against his nature, and even have a transitory phase where he learned to use his other elements in more direct ways, but Korra never has to do any this. Same thing with her getting the avatar state - she doesn't earn it, she just suffers for a bit (less than a week without bending) and then it's given to her. For Aang to avatar state he had to see genocide, or have one of his loved ones taken from him, but Korra can do it just because she's sad she can't bend anymore? She even is immediately able to control it despite Aang requiring almost 3 seasons and being far more in touch with his past lives. I know the show was supposed to end after S1 so they had to wrap it up, but it just feels sloppy and needlessly disrespectful of ATLA to me.

NerdyGothKitty

I'm watching for the first time too, and oh my God Mako has literally been involved in ALL the worst scenes so far. This guy really is going to be the worst character huh

Dumel

If i were to rate each book Book 1: 8/10 Book 2: 6.5/10 Book 3: 9/10 Book 4: 8.5 /10

Tyler Brasher

Amon is cool and all but books 2,3 and 4 have so much good in them

Rolandem

You have to do book 2, 3 AND 4

VJ Sins

I don't remember where it was stated, but when Amon's using bloodbending to "take their bending away" he's interrupting and permanently blocking their chi in points where they could no longer utilize their bending.

Ian Vega

Regarding the electric force field fence thing, as an audience we have seen invisible shock barriers in sci-fi for ages... but its a brand new invention and concept in the show, the characters have no reason imagine it's even possible.

Turbo Flea

Mako could break the bloodbending by lightning bending. You can see him begin to get in position just before Amon walks over to lift Mako up. Korra was able to break out because Amon was already hurt, so his control in that moment was likely weakened as well.
