because no one else in the world fights titans like they do. They're terrified of them and use big guns, and hide behind walls. A bunch of crazed psychos charging titans with swords? That's insanity from his perspective. Keep in mind, only Zeke, Pieck, and the OGs know about how the scouts work. He saw little fleeting bits of Ymir's memories, but it was mostly related to Reiner and the other warriors hanging out, as he had a connection with them, which made the memories easier to unlock. As someone who hasn't lived on or fought in Paradi, he has no idea what he's up against. Compared to Pieck who was on Paradi and loses her shit the moment she hears the sound of ODM gear and only comes back after suiting up in gear she feels will give her the advantage. (It's easy to miss but Pieck has been running around on Paradi since Season 2, and was there as a scout/support unit for Zeke, though we don't actually see her till the assault on Shiganshina in Season 3).

i think its the power. like, normal enemies would be scared to fight them up close because they had no way of countering them without heavy artillery. but the people of paradis have been perfecting their tech so they can effectively kill titans up close because thats all they had.

Hope you're making sure to put your health first. I can't wait to see the next one as I'm watching for the first time along with you, but your health is more important. When you get some free time you should go back and watch some key parts like Erwins final charge in English dub by the way. I did so myself and they really did a great job. I'd even say some of the lines are delivered even better than the original, so I think the English voice actors really deserve some recognition, as from what I've heard, dubs can be really hit/miss in anime.

Because up until recently they where getting repeatedly massacred by titans and it had kept them fully contained on their island. It's only really by the end of last season that they started to get control over the situation thanks to the thunder spears and new understanding about what they where fighting.
