Yeah many of the weapons, ideologies, situations are reminiscent to real life happenings, like the Internment Zone, the armbands, Eldians and Marleyans, the use of 'devils' to describe the Eldians. Even the wars.

Don't know if anyone's talked about it yet but since we just saw the anti-titan rifle that Grice carries I thought I might point out that the guns used in Marley are very close to real life WW1/WW2-ish era guns. The semi automatic pistols they use, which were also engineered into the new anti-personnel ODM gear, looks like a Mauser C96 which is a German pistol produced from 1896 to 1937. It wasn't exclusively used in Germany but was popular among militaries and civilians in several parts of the world, a few variants being produced. I personally know it from Resident Evil 4 (as the Red 9, which was a real variant that used 9mm ammo and had a red 9 engraved on the grip) and from Metal Gear Solid 3 (where one character uses the Chinese reproduction of the C96). The Marleyan rifles are very clearly based on the M1 Garand. The Garand, designed for Springfield by French Canadian John Garand, was the standard US service rifle 1936-1957. Extremely famous and beloved weapon for its role in WW2 as well as just being a solid, reliable firearm. Still in use in some countries, like the Belgian police, how about that? And now in this episode we saw an "anti-titan rifle" that is clearly just a Russian PTRD-41 that was produced from 1941, hence the name. It's a big honking metal pipe that fires a single 14.5×114mm (.57 calibre), which is very large in case you don't know ammo sizes, round that could penetrate the armor of German Panzer III and Panzer IV tanks. If you want to see it in another anime, you can watch Darker than Black, second season. So, Marley uses weapons modeled after German, Russian and American weapons all used during World War 2. Is this a commentary on how every nation can be the bad guys in war depending on perspective? Is it just Isayama thinking those guns in particular looked cool? Who knows?

When was this? Granted I didn't really watch news growing up or cared about politics cause of school and future prospects. Not as much as I do now to stay informed about what's going on in the world. Hearing Obama do that is just really disheartening to hear.

Man i'll get shit on for this take but the only ones i rooted for throughout the last 20 episodes were Gabi, Falco, Colt, Pieck and Reiner. They're the only ones who still got some goodness in their hearts. Fuck everyone else. Fuck Marley's government, fuck Armin and fuck Eren especially. And mildly fuck Zeke (despite his cruelty he at least got the greater good on his mind).
