So yeah... personally I've never watched "Straw Hat" myself. I have always been intimidated by the sheer number of episodes, and because of the ADD I have when it comes to watching TV I struggled to get through Fairy Tail (which has like 1/3 of the episodes of "Straw Hat"). But hey - that just means I can climb aboard the HMS AliciaxDeath and begin the voyage that way XD

Good luck! I hope you end up enjoying the series! The start is a bit rough as in the anime as they drastically changed it from the mangas pacing. Try to stick with it until episode 40 as that arc really pulls first timers in.

I started this show 3 times wanting to get into it... and failed each time eventually pushed past the slow begining and it truely is the greatest story ever told and NO I'm not over hyping anything hahaha but if one it not prepared for a slow-ish start then you might get disipointed early on so if you are doing a full series watch. I'm looking forward in watchalongs... Although we might be here until 2026 but I'm not planning on going anywhere sooo yea LETS Gooooooooooooo

One Piece, being an anime that comes out weekly instead of in seasons, means that they occasionally did filler arcs (Like Naruto did). These tend to not be written by the original author and the quality can vary. You can decide to skip them or watch them, your call. The important thing is to enjoy the adventure. If you are interested in only watching the "main story" then just ask and we can give you a list of episodes its safe to skip.

Alicia already seeing what makes One Piece and Luffy so good and trendsetting for the shounen battle genre. He takes a lot of influence from Goku personality-wise but still has his own spin on the simple-minded and blunt protagonist and is very influential for future works. There's a definite difference between shounen protags as a whole before and after Luffy.

The first episodes deviate a lot from the manga (it should start with Luffy's backstory and the whole section with Coby is completely changed), so there are some weird things going on... anyway, good luck on this journey! This will be LONG, so do not worry about taking occasional breaks if you feel "overloaded".

Hope you enjoy it, it’s one of my favorite series. I will say that the anime has two issues. Nothing that might damper your enjoyment but its filler and previous episodes recaps. Nothing can really be done about the recaps but are you going to skip the filler. It fine if you aren’t but it might make it easier to get through.

i absolutely love that you are on this journey with us (up to date person speaking) but im gunna have to warn you.... there is about to be a massive influx of people just cos of op and with lots of flow there will be a little bit of shit, i highly recommend putting out an a.p.b. basically saying if you suck BAN! don't worry you will get plenty back from the reaction to the show but i have watched 2 other reactors have to do the same thing and unfortunately the "i wont uplode it if you suck" thing wont work cos op fans can be kinda rabbid sometimes. i say this with all the love and i am genuanly happy you are watching this masterpiece but just don't deal with any dicks you don't want to :p

The original one-shot for One Piece was called Romance Dawn. This is also the name of the first chapter of the manga. Also, Luffy's birthday is May 5th. 5/5 can be read as go-go which sounds a lot like gomu-gomu. Gomu means rubber. In English Luffy says gum-gum instead of gomu-gomu or rubber rubber. Out of all the many things that One Piece gets right, I think Oda really nailed Luffy as a protagonist. For a dumb, carefree guy, Luffy actually has a lot going on in terms of his emotional intelligence and ability to connect with other people. As someone who's watched through the show twice now (up to the current arc), there's tons of stuff to look forward to--hope you have fun with it!

I love that this series is just so well thought out that it was basically predicting everything Alicia would ask or want to happen as she thought it. Oda is just 100% in-sync with the audience, like every time a thing happens he either subverts expectations, does what people would want to see, or explains something they'd be wondering about. I know people are going to be dumb and accuse Alicia of pre-watching or whatever, but this is just what it looks like when a well written series is self-aware enough to get where the audience would be in the moment. Just good stuff all-around, and I hope she enjoys the journey!

You should look up the episode guide online since it's an early 2000's anime it's got a lot of filler. Unless you're down to watch it. It also has where the movies fit into the timeline
