It was more Coby's lack of willingness at first to stand up for himself and break out that annoyed Luffy in the first episode, rather than the fact that he was weak.

Luffy absolutely cares about others, he just usually doesn't give much of a damn about stuff unless they make it clear they care as well, and are willing to work for it. With like a 8 year old girl, he doesn't really expect her to be able to defend herself, but climbing over a wall and making food for someone already shows she will put in the effort for her goals.

Its worth noting that all of the main characters are VERY young. The oldest is Zoro @ 19 before Robin shows up who's 28. Luffy is the youngest at 17 except for Chopper who is 15 but i dont know if he ages like a person or an animal lol.

Like i mentioned previously this is my first time watching OP and so far its interesting, a bit slow but understandable as they are setting up the world and characters. Zoro seems to stand up to wrongdoings and would fit perfectly with Luffy. Wondering what Nami is doing. We know she'll join the crew so im thinking she would act as an infiltrator and guide cause she wanted a map (???) Great reaction overall can't wait for the next episodes to come!!

To be fair, Coby is talking sense about the Grand Line. We got two dudes in a row boat and we're going into the most dangerous waters in the world. These guys don't even have a navigator, they don't even have a doctor! If Luffy gets sick we're down half the crew with nobody to protect him as Zorro gathers supplied, and one bad wave is going to just end the journey pretty immediately. Like, what are we even going to eat? Just live off of raw fish for the whole journey? Who even knows which of those is safe, right? So we're down food, supplies, transportation is shaky at best, we're REALLY lacking manpower, and who even knows where we're going! If Luffy set out like this I don't think he'd even get past the Red Line in the first place.

Side note, she should absolutely check out PurpleEyesWtf's "None Piece" videos after finishing the Beratie arc, because he did an abridged version of this show and I can't stop thinking about like EVERY gag from that while watching these episodes, lol. It's just so good!

I don't dislike him. He serves to illustrate how unreasonable Luffys plans are, which is important since we don't have any other context for what is reasonable in this universe.

One interesting thing to take note of (not a spoiler btw) is Luffy's lack of an internal dialogue. It's a trait that persists throughout the series and I love him for it haha

I'd say it ramps in enjoyment imo. It's ok at the start but gets better at Romance Dawn, and the again at Baratie and then again at Arlong Park ect ect. I know I was absolutely hooked by mid point of Arlong Park actually. At least she isn't starting with the 4kids version. Though, I'd love to see her react to some of it later

I won't lie it took me trying three times to get in One Piece. would drop it every time after Sanji joins the crew. took me about 250 episodes to truly get hooked. Now I can't get anyone of my friends to start this beast of an anime. All I'll say is this anime so be titled "One Piece: So you think you like a slow burn?" lol I hope you will like it. oh only other piece of advice would be to follow the animefiller.com list for One Piece and skip the filler and only watch the G9 filler arc (arguably one of the best fillers in all anime) can cut out about 100ish episodes of nonsense.

I like how even with the first interaction with the marines they are presented not as just simply good or evil, because morgan is a corrupt power-hungry person, but the other marines are honorable and even koby admires them as a force of good. Of course, that won't matter to us because as pirates they will always be enemies.

Alright~ I promised to give you heads up and notices on One Piece when you begin Alicia so here we go with the first of many FUN FACTS: 1.) Captain Morgan originally had a triple butt chin and triple stacked version of his son (Helmeppo)'s hair but the he found his natural hair looks so stupid he decided to just go shaved. 2.) When airing they decided to lightly censor this episode. The soldiers ordered to shoot themselves really did in fact commit to self deletion because they didn't wanna die by Morgan's hand as well as the soldier on the roof originally was cut down not hit in the head.
