only thing ive got grips with about this part in the anime is that all of the practical exam matchups are supposed to be happening at the same time.

The amount Bakugo's behaviour gets forgiven is unreal. He made Deku's life a living hell for most of his childhood, god knows how he treated others during his earlier years and he continues to be an utter scumbag. He's no good reason to act the way he does though - his parents are great, his fellow kids looked up to him and his teachers seemed to think he was a good student (Not that a shitty background forgives people for being shitty but he doesn't even have that). If anything with Bakugo being an utter p.o.s. it's shocking that Deku turned out to be such a good hearted guy with 0 bitterness.

14:00 I’d also throw in that Bakugo also wants to be challenged so he can see where he needs to improve. Despite his overcompensating boasting/outburst he KNOWS that some of his classmates(specifically deku and icy hot) have powerful quirks and he needs to go against them to see how he can overcome them. But they don’t give their all like he needs them to which is why he has to curse them out because he needs to be tested amongst his peers for an accurate self reflection He’s such a fascinating multilayered character who presents the opposite. I feel like his smarts are highly underrated.

The fun thing I like about Monoma (Copy) is that he never brags about himself, only about his class (at least, from what we've seen thus far, I will not confirm nor deny if this changes). It is kinda unfortunate that he drags 1-A to do it though xD

Kirishima, the hardening boy isnt Crimson Riot, he is Red Riot, he is just paying referance to Crimson Riot, just like Deku as a kid was doing stuff like Mighty All Man junior, similar names to connect you to a hero, not taking the name itself.

Bakugo is my favorite character. Feels like Endeavor and him are the only morally grey characters and I always preferred that to an obvious hero or villain.

Yeah Bakugo for as much as a shithead he is, always got better grades than Deku in school and isn't a typical bully who just doesn't care about his education. He takes being a hero seriously. . Honestly his only flaw as a hero is his awful personality.

Im sorry the "he was just a kid" excuse isnt really helpful as is the Whataboutismus about game lobbies. The point is that his acts up to THIS point in the story have no excuse. Yeah the adults feeding his ego is a reason but no excuse as in the end he still decids how to act its the same direction of "boys will be boys" All people have issues to deal with and most of them dont go to classmate and say they should off themself.

Look... yeah, but he was also an edgy 14 year old shithead who had been given a superiority complex by every adult in his life up until that point. He has character development like you would hope that any 14 year old would experience when realizing how much bigger the world is than they knew. Halo 2/3 lobbies were fucked up places to be, Bakugo is positively tame compared to the 14 year olds in gaming spaces then, and maybe even now.

Couldnt write it better then Liesmith did. Bakugo has a lot of changes during the whole story but at the present most of his behavior isnt excuseable. Him being a better character in chapter XY doesnt help in the current moment.

Thanks for that! I'm sorry if my original reply came across as a blanket labelling of everyone who dislikes Bakugo. I should have elaborated on the viewpoints I was discussing rather than reducing them to a single sentence, and that's on me for not communicating clearly. I completely understand where you're coming from, and I wasn't trying to throw shade on everyone who's dislike of Bakugo stems from his beginnings as, as you put it, "an unrepentant bully". What I was trying to get at (and should have explained more thoroughly) is that a saddening number of people seemingly refuse to look deeper into his character and his development to examine the intricacies of his situation and his mindset. Whether or not that changes their opinion of him isn't the issue, you're allowed to like and dislike characters for your own reasons. It's the unwillingness to even acknowledge that he can or has changed, or that there may be some uncontrolled cause behind his actions that I take issue with. The people who I have both known in-person and interacted with online who home in on the surface-level first-glance image of his character and use it as an excuse to shit on the show and it's writing, that's who I was aiming towards when I posted my original reply. I hope that clears some things up, and again I really do appreciate your pointing out of the flaws in my communication. Words alone are already hard enough to convey complex messages through, and I would hate for my stumbling to give off the wrong impression.

I don't think most people dislike Bakugo because he's "loud and annoying", but rather that his debut episode shows him as an unrepentant bully who tells another student to commit suicide. In the standards of this world, Deku is basically physically disabled compared to anyone with a quirk, and Bakugo is introduced as someone who preys upon that weakness. I like his character development as the show goes on, but let's not pretend that anyone's dislike of his objectively negative behavior is simply a "surface-level conclusion".

Absolutely. The number of "He's loud and annoying so I hate him and refuse to acknowledge any character growth" takes I've seen has me so disappointed in the fanbase. It's genuinely refreshing to see someone not immediately jump to surface-level conclusions about his behavior, and I cannot wait to see Alicia's response to his progression throughout the series.

So I forget if this was ever commented back during the Sports Festival arc, but I remember you saying something thst implies that Class B is beneath Class A academic wise or just in general which isn't anything new since I'm pretty sure it's one of those common interpretations among new viewers. Class A and B are suppose to be classes of equal merit since they're both the only hero course classes in U.A. however everyone keeps constantly bringing up the USJ attack from season 1 which makes sense since it elevated Class A creating that divide that Class B can't catch up to given how real of a situation the USJ attack was. It's kinda the justification Monoma uses to his point of view to punch up against Class A. Though of course you is also a jerk who likes to take jabs and laugh superiority whenever given the opportunity so the dislike of him is understandable
