I can understand that, it's more of a personal preference thing, but I just think it shows a bit of personal growth on Endeavor's part, like he's starting to acknowledge his own flaws, at least a little bit. It shows that he actually does believe All Might is better than him, which I don't believe he would've admitted before Shoto's work study. It feels like a first step on his journey towards improvement, and it builds up his later character development better in my opinion, because him asking All Might for advice in Season 4 always felt off to me, we hadn't seen Endeavor show any personal growth until that point, at it felt undesevered, at least to me.

It changes it to be a more positive message, sure, if that's what you like, but it changes the meaning of that piece of dialogue from something that is more of a piece of Endeavor's character to something that feels flat and bland. The "What's with that pitiful back?" has two interpretive meanings imo. The first is the obvious literal sense, it's shock at how the number 1 hero he's looked up to for so long and strived to be so hard is not what he envisioned, but a skeleton of a man. The second is a more metaphorical "Why do you look so pitiful right now? Why is the man I've been chasing after for so long standing there looking defeated?". I think both of these meanings intertwined into the sentence "What's with that pitiful back?" fits Endeavor's character really well. He's aggressive towards and resentful of All Might, but at the same time there's a complicated form of respect that he has to have for him, being that he's been chasing after him for so long. Like Alicia mentioned, it's actually quite similar to Deku and Bakugo's relationship. Changing it to "Stand up and show them why you're better" doesn't really sit with me as being something that Endeavor would say. I can't quite remember every piece of Endeavor dialogue that happens in the future, but up to this point in no way has Endeavor ever shouted words of encouragement to All Might and I don't see why he would now, seeing as their relationship hasn't changed. It kinda just seems like filler dialogue you'd hear from one of the crowd members, rather than something Endeavor would say, in my opinion at least idk. Additionally, the neutral to negative connotation of "What's with that pitiful back?" fits the actual animation better, as we see the representation of a young Endeavor staring at All Might's back across a rift, and paired with his usual grumpy demeanor. The "Stand up and show them why you're better" just doesn't fit what is being shown imo.

2023-07-26 08:01:37 +0000 UTCOh boy, so one thing that a lot of people miss when it comes to this fight is the more subtle emotional attacks that AFO throws at All Might. He strips his image from him by showing the world his hidden form (but people don't care and continue to cheer for him despite it), uses his mentor's death against him (but Gran Torino knocks his head back on for that), uses his hidden trump card about Shigaraki against him (which is interrupted by the woman begging for his help), and uses the knowledge of Midoriya being his student against him and berating him about how willful the kid is and how he doesn't listen to his 'master'. This backfires completely, though - instead of demoralizing All Might, it gives him the impetus to fight and live - because he needs to reprimand Deku for putting himself in danger like he did. The biggest win factor in this fight is that All Might had people at his back, helping him stay on track and keeping him focused. AFO wasn't wrong that in battle emotions can be a hindrance, but when controlled and properly directed, they can be much more of a help. AFO wouldn't understand either of these things - he lost because he trusted his back to no-one and preferred to poke at All Might's 'weak' emotions and try to break him that way. It didn't work.

All For One said, “the sight of your guts, spilling out on the ground, sometimes comes to me in my dreams.” That means he saw All Might with the hole in his stomach. All Might had his intestines on the ground and still beat All For One blind. A cornered hero is dangerous indeed.
