Would be funny if an actual devil fruit was in there that coincidentally looked like a plain old apple and it was somehow right there being accidentally painted by those dudes unknowingly... The original design still had the Whitebeard Skull on it, but instead of a cross, it was a swastika. Oda had been told to change it as the series went on so it could match the show and not upset western audiences. There's probably a bit more to it, but that's the general information.

2023-08-08 23:17:05 +0000 UTCPeople have asked Oda about devil fruit powers affecting the users clothing previously, and the answer he gave was that if they were destroyed every time powers were in use the series would have a lot of unnecessary nudity. =D So basically, clothes are considered a part of the user and as far as I can recall there hasn't been any real exception to that rule.

Also with every person with the initial D in their name the show presents with a different family name, should make you think that these different families may have a root of some kind that makes them have that initial in their name. I won't spoil too much beyond this, partly because Oda has been very secretive of the importance of the D, but it is important that you keep those with initial D in their name bookmarked. The initial D, and few other subjects I won't discuss for heavy spoiler reasons, makes one think that Oda had been cooking up the concept of One Piece since he was in the womb, because there are so many points that eagle eyed viewers would wind up taking note on well before they are formally introduced in the series. For example the initial D, even though there haven't been that many with the initial D in their name yet, there have been enough that there should be inkling of a thought that there is something special about it, though I've already stated that Oda has been keeping the secret of the initial D so close to the heart, that fans caught up with the series pretty much go rabid by the mear sprinkle of a bread crumbs about it. My head is still a bit shaky from the flu, so if this paragraph seams to be mad rambling, I'm sorry.

The clothes of all devil fruit users are affected by the powers of the user just as much as the user's body. So Luffy's clothes while he wears them can also stretch (hence no bullet holes). Smoker's clothes also turn to smoke (hence him not losing his clothes whenever he turns into smoke, especially whenever he turns his lower body into smoke to fly since otherwise he's be naked for his lower body afterward). It works the same for Ace and fire. His clothes while he wears them also cannot be burned by others similarly to how Luffy's clothes stretch. And he can turn to fire along with his clothes without losing them like smoker. Oda did this because otherwise there would be a lot more nudity in the series.

This is also how the name "Blackbeard" for the real pirate known as that is called in Japanese (aka "black facial hair).
