Straw Hat Episode 96

The irony of calling Little Garden filler just a few months ago... Note that Robin tried to spare them from going to Little Garden but Luffy denied her, that the 3, 5, and 13 pairs were either introduced or dealt with in Little Garden, that the entire basis for going to Drum Island originated there - without Little Garden, Nami doesn't get sick, so they don't go off course and find Chopper, so no transforming deer doctor for the crew - and that Little Garden was where Usopp's dream really started to conceptualize itself. It was quite the important developmental arc, even without knowing what came from it years down the line. There are a few other things the arc represented that are only obvious with hindsight, after all. It's important to understand the distinction between filler content and canon content, because Oda never forgets, and his back-reach can go far. This is why it's a good idea to consult the episode guide on the One Piece wiki; even if you want to watch the filler, the guide will still inform you what's filler and what's not. Incidentally, the first filler episode post entry into the Grand Line was episode 93, where Luffy casually destroyed another man's property because he didn't like it, and where Chopper almost ended up being served out from a bazaar stall.

Confidently calling canon events filler

I don't think Miss Friday & Mr. 13/The Unluckies were necessarily killed, unless...*looks up if they were killed* I think Mr. 11 was tho, for sure

Yagi di Hoshi

Yes, it's "Miss Friday"

I get where you're coming from with the "Luffy v. Ace" treatment, it's definitely overplayed a bit. Most of the time it feels like ribbing, like you're messing with a sibling or friend, and it's usually pretty back and forth among the crew. Like everyone gets their moment where they're catching a bit of shit πŸ˜† That said, the anime does keep Ace around longer than the manga does, and definitely feels like they play up the comparisons more. The only time they really did it in the manga was when Ace first meets the crew, and then he leaves shortly after taking out the ships. He never disembarks and travels with them through Alabasta in the manga

Doing a pokemon nuzlock as your first pokemon game is crazy. Also Little garden is canon.

Lightinger

a woman????????

Fenronin (Dorian Dubourg)

You should play pokemon black but i dont know if id do a nuzlock as your first experience

john king

Yo. Sanji killing the Unluckies on Little Garden isn't filler. Also the Vulture is a woman and Sanji's code is "never hit a woman", lol.

Larry Gonzalez

Did she react to the 4kids opening yet?

A Dry Bones Production

I'd love to see you play pokemon. It's always interesting to see what pokemon newcomers add to there team.

After re-experiencing the early arcs of One Piece with you I've noticed that the filler and canon material bleed into each other a lot more than I remembered. But yeah, as some others have mentioned, the only real whole block of filler was the dragon island thing with Apis. The only canon section of that was when they wandered into the calm belt and saw seakings, but the filler was built in a way that it could be doctored in. If you take a look at the whole dragon narrative and the details surrounding it, they were a bit more magical and/or grand than what we had seen so far barring the devil fruit, so if anything in that arc seemed a step more fantastical than normal it's likely not canon, sorry to say. Erik also completely disappeared from the reverse mountain entrance flashback in the very next episode. I think they shoehorned him in for a bit of extra mileage. =D Sorry for the wall, I had something to say and attempting to put that into word got me thinking... ^^'

hey when this episode came out those screen wipes were cutting edge!

Kung Fu Dewgongs remain one of my favorite creatures in One Piece. They are just such adorable little fighty beans!

Seraphem

If the pacing from here on feels a bit weird, it's because they extended the part from here until the next city and mixed in filler parts. So it's not entirely filler, but many parts are. For example, in the manga Ace just met Luffy and said goodbye to him at his ship after blowing up the BW ships, he never followed them in the desert. Ace also held off the marines off-page, so we didn't see him fighting with Smoker either. But don't worry, the kung fu dugongs are canon! XD

Look, that little otter had a knife and the chicken had a machine gun those kills were justified self-defense πŸ˜‚Also who told you Little Garden was filller? the arc with the little girl who can talk to animals was filler the dino giant Island was all part of the story

Little garden isnt filler

Cursed HellSpawn

Yeah, the lore in One Piece is really insane and outstanding. As you continue your voyage (see what I did there), you'll come across so much along the way that's gonna amaze you. The worldbuilding in One Piece is one of my favorites in any series so far.

SHOCK JOHNNY

Little garden isn't filler, who told you that nonsense. Warship island is the only filler you've seen.
