I rewatch this series about once a year, just to make sure that all the emotional plumbing is still working. The writers heard there were 11 different kinds of tears, and made it their mission to tease out each type individually.

This is one of the most beautifully-illustrated and artistically-directed anime I've ever seen. The art, colors, and details are exquisite! Possibly the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen.

And it is a typical german sounding Name. BUT its also a Nomen for "Suffering". I do not know if this is intended, but it would be pretty meta.
