I can just picture Mirio getting too excited while trying to tell Eri about various holidays: "This thing is fun! Oh, but there's also this other thing! And this third thing is fun, too. And also...." And that results in Eri mixing up all of the different holidays.

2023-11-17 12:17:06 +0000 UTCSo if I recall correctly, you are very much onto something about the happiness of the Christmas episode supposed to set up the pace for a darker moment afterward. The anime did something very wonky here and switched two arcs from the manga. I feel like they wanted the big arc to be the finale of the season, but it ended up messing with the pacing in many people's opinion.
