That's very interesting. I'm not sure how much the show would have been different with her gone (they probably would have introduced what TV tropes calls a "suspiciously similar substitute") but I love the actor so I'm glad they changed their mind.

When the cast read the script, they lobbied for her to stay on the show, so they tweaked it and instead we were able to witness her full transformation into Femme McNulty.
