He was essentially the only young man in a village of children and elderly women his whole life, other than his sister. It's no excuse for his behavior. I do think that it does add a degree more nuance to his, frankly, very quick change of opion bout the "boy/girl" thing. Also this came out in the early 2000s when there was a HARD pink aisle and blue aisle separation in toy sections at stores, if you catch my drift.
