I’d argue that most of the filler in ATLA has relevance to the story at large; unlike certain shows that don’t progress the plot, you can definitely understand major arc decisions and thought processes from the characters in this show based on filler episodes.

2025-06-23 23:04:43 +0000 UTCI realized how brilliant it is that Katara starts to cry when she ask Where Sokka is. Since she just saw how monstrously dedicated Jet and his group is to the "cause" even to the point of wiping out an entire town, for all she knows Sokka is at that moment lying in a ditch with his throat slit. Her brother dead all because she didn't take his concerns seriously. Its not until he shows up on Appa does she know he is Alive and well.
