Chainsaw Man Episode 12

IT'S THE FINALEEE BABYYYY!!

Chainsaw Man Episode 12

Comments

cant believe aki says "himeno wouldnt want that" as if she would not be laughing her ass off at the prospect of a nutshot contest

Bambi

I know I am a bit late, but hear me out. In the cigarette scene when Himeno says '' Once you grow up and you're ready to develop an addiction, I'll give it back'' and then proceeds to give the cigarette back with her ghost devil while Aki is having flashbacks to the good times with Himeno. I see it as Himeno essentially giving Aki an addiction to her. Making all of Himeno's efforts to let Aki fall in love with her finally bear fruit in some way.

Hydride

Best Reaction. I wait for next season :)

MoD+

It will probably take a year or two if you don't know yet.

Carter Skjerven

To add upon the episode 3 fight, he's absolutely losing it during the fight. Going completely feral basically, his laughter and running animation was a connection to how he acts like a dog.

Backpack_Hermit

have some Himeno ptsd: https://open.spotify.com/track/1SiTJWmO416vuOw3nUl1jw?si=6f808108cee14746

CarbonDog

interesting how to girl mentions city mouse and country mouse cause thats what akis sibling was reading before they left the house, i need to know more.

Gunny

^^ imma just wait it out for season 2 so I can embrace the plot twists and be surprised on the journey

aliciaxlife

Cannot recommend the manga enough if you get impatient <3

Emma Brune

The mommy on the END.... To your question - will she be your new Mommy... If that is a yess we will be brother and Sister because she is 100% my mommy ;)

Christo Badenhorst

Thanks for the finale

TrinitytheApostle

another thing as someone who fences and basically whips around a car antenna I was so happy about your breakdown of momentum in a fight with 2 heavy ass tools. A chainsaw isn't a weapon it's a tool, and based on the fact that denji's exhale is basically exhaust fumes that means it's machinery. So yeah I'm completely with you, you try looking cool when you're basically holding 2 20lb weights on your arm

LampyLust

the nuance in this show is absolutely phenomenal. Power said under her breath "these I can defeat" she's honestly scared but she's to prideful to admit that. So in order for her to maintain self preservation while doing her job she creates a mess by exposing herself and cleaning it up. Yeah she's kinda 2 brain cell at times but she still has depth. *edit* also isn't interesting that this building has a 13th floor?

LampyLust

I’m up in arms over that one. I was very surprised to see the character trauma that we got.

Tachyon Fast

I obviously won’t tell you anything at all that explains the ending… but yes… mommy.

Tachyon Fast

Everytime I hear that quote I just imagine it in the 90s "IT'S NERF OR NOTHIN" voice.

Mike

Did you make a TLDR that was TLDR?

Mike

That episode was a nut slapper ong ong. I CANNOT wait until the rest of CSM pt. 1 is animated. I hope they can squeeze the rest of it into season 2, if that’s possible without stretching the plot any-which-way. I feel like it’s gonna be just as good if not better than S1.

Tachyon Fast

wooooo the tease such a good season cant wait so awesome

thatoneguy217

Very generous of Mappa to leave TWO teases at the end for future plot points. Being a manga reader, I'm super excited at the prospect of Mappa making the second batch longer to potentially finish up the adaptation in one more swoop. With that said, some of my favourite arcs will be in this next batch, so another 12 episode batch in roughly a year's time would mean more screen time for a certain dark devil my fellow readers know all too well. Very special adaptation, nothing but praise

Oscar Wright

Explaining cinematography and physics to the uninitiated. Thanks for continually making great content!

Marques Nonu

srry but I aint reading all that XD still love your passion <3

The final little no-spoiler tl;dr for ya! I love that because Aki knows from both the Curse Devil confirming he has at most just two years to live, and the Future Devil confirming that his death is gonna be the fucking worst that he's stopped being afraid of dying here. That's why the Ghost Devil stops being able to sense him because he doesn't have any fear any more, which he realizes because Himeno told him about her Devil, and she still has a lingering presence there. (It makes the Episode 8 Ending hit SO much harder). One of the best things about Kobeni is that so long as there is zero doubt about what she has to do, she's unstoppably badass. The second that she's not 100% sure of what to do, she breaks down — which we see with her reaction when Sawatari gets eaten by the Snake Devil, and she goes from the cool, calm, and collected badass and breaks back into a total panic. Although it's never directly confirmed, that "suicide" aspect to Sawatari's contract with the Snake & Gun Devils is likely why summoning Snake ONLY costs her a finger nail. Like we heard when Aki was making contracts with the Future Devil, what seems cheap can be offset when there are HUGE secondary contextual costs. Sawatari's contract where her life gets instantly forfeit if she's captured matches that, and is why I love a bunch of Chainsaw Man för having contextual storytelling that's never overtly explained outside of details. The scene you noticed in the opening this time is a version of the "Equality" image where everyone has a different vantage point. Denji & Power are like kids playing in the dirt. Aki is standing on top of a pile of snow full of symbolism from his past looking over the wall, and then Makima is on top of a pile of books looking over the top of THAT wall at something else entirely. It's the same sense we get from the end of the Episode where Makima is reporting to a government higher up, while Aki is playing big brother to Denji & Power as they're all finally made into a little family. The one other opening scene detail that's worth noting here is the one with everyone in the movie theater. Last episode, we got introduced to the other non-humans by Kishibe: the Shark Fiend, the Violence Fiend, the Angel-Devil, & the Spider Devil. Now we finally know who everyone in the OP scene in the movie theater is… but one of them is missing. Violence. One of the fan theories that's never been directly confirmed or denied even in the manga is that the corpse that the Violence Devil possesses is Arai's body after he got shot and killed in the assault. The fact that Arai is alive in that scene and Violence isn't present seems to be an intentional nod by MAPPA towards that idea (especially since in the working art, Violence was originally in one of the seats, but was intentionally excluded in the final version). The fact that he's standing beside Kobeni in Episode 11's ED "Violence" reinforces that even more. Angel-Devil being mistaken for a girl is common and it's another interesting design-only detail. In the Bible any time the angels show up, they're always telling everyone not to be afraid because their mere presence is so terrifying. Since they're a source of fear, they become a Devil in this world, even though they have no direct ill intent towards humans. Additionally, all angelic art shifted around 400 AD when Christian designs syncretized with the Roman goddess of military Victory, Nike. This is why angels are always depicted as androgynously beautiful, non-bearded humans with white wings, exactly like Angel-Devil, rather than looking like the monstrous "Biblically accurate" angels. Ever since the series started out with Denji's dream of that mysterious door, and the pacing of the episodes per chapter played out, I knew that this was how MAPPA was planning to bookend Season 1, and it's utterly brilliant. The fact that it's even hidden in that last little section of the opening really reinforces JUST how much thought MAPPA pours into every little detail. Like with all the details, the one they chose to open and end with that dream on is extremely significant, but with no way to know why until the story shows you. It was a brilliant way to add a little bit of emphasis to help pay attention to it for the next season though, and also to help reinforce going back through the first Season's episodes again to catch little details like this that you'd never notice or couldn't understand. There are still a HOST of details that won't be apparent or decipherable until Season 2 (which hasn't been officially announced yet). That's why for me, the most unexpected thing was MAPPA seeming to confirm that we'll be getting another season with that FINAL final scene and the new voice. For the manga fans, her voice and a LOT of the specific shots they used as soon as Denji's dream sequence ends carry significant weight for what's coming next that's totally unintelligible until you already know what it is, save for one thing. Her asking about the Country Mouse and the City Mouse is a tiny detail that has already been used before in Season 1, as it's the book at Aki's parents were reading to his little brother in bed at the start of that flashback. That's because the story is one of Aesop's Fables as a fairly common way to pose complex questions to kids. It makes for a perfect note to end with Denji being in a position to start contemplating given that he's now fallen asleep after having a great and totally normal time out with Aki & Power being that same sort of family dynamic that none of them have had since their trauma started. As for what exactly that fable is asking… I'll leave that to you to speculate on, look up the fable, or wait for Season 2 to see how much it explains. Thanks for such fantastic breakdowns and reactions of this series and genuinely being the most fun I've had getting to share a series in a long time!

The scores for Himeno and Aki scenes.. that intercut scene score just hit me so hard, I loved it so much.

JaySpotTx

Idk why but I got a touch emotional when I saw Denji and Aki taking nut shots at katana man. They started their relationship with a punch to the face and nothing but nuts, but now a nut shot is something they bond over. Def an atypical way to show the growth in their relationship!

MatteFlix

Both stories are incredible mind you and, from my own personal bias, flawless.

Winter

Just as a heads up in the case that you watch Evangelion soon, the original show is a completely different timeline from the 4 movies. Personally, I recommend watching the movies first as it is easier to grasp what's happening for someone new. But if you want the original (Neon Genesis.) goes even further into the world building and realizing the character's thoughts, emotions, and intentions.

Winter

Aki finally starting to come out of his shell to participate in the contest was such a sweet moment, love to see those little moments of character growth.

GildedGrimoire

That was fucking [REDATED], aw shit here we go!!!

BlueSummer

NUTS OR NOTHING! Best tournament arc and a glimpse of best girl in one episode, what a joy. Also, Evangelion would be really interesting to see you watch with your analytical style!

sapandstars

Man.. woman.. angel.. .devil... hot is hawt.. just sayin'

JaySpotTx

I cant wait for season 2! As good as this season is it doesn't compete with what's going to happen later! It's going to be wild!

GormleyPeach

Alicia: "You need to cut his heart out!" Fujimoto: "You're really nice, giving him a quick death. But when I give a bastard what's coming to him...IT'S NUTS OR NOTHING!"

James Gheen

All I can say is Следующие сезоны будут потрясающими.

Mike

Alright, gonna delete the comment then so thanks for the heads up

Jorcun590

The biggest reason people thought this has not happened yet so yeah it is still a bit of a spoiler.

:3 embrace it

That beginning with the Ghost devil was soooo good! Loved the analysis with how Denji moves with the chainsaws, the weight behind them and how awkward he has to move in order to fight with those heavy chainsaws protruding out of him was captured brilliantly, whole fight was amazing. Hell of a finale with so many questions unanswered, can't wait for the next season. NOTHIN BUT NUTZ BABY!!!

Joey Cat

stuff at the end is stuff exclusively for manga people to understand and to tease :)

Yggdrasil

And now we wait! Having read the manga, I think next season will be quite exciting! I'm definitely looking forward to meeting the girl from the end of this episode again, the one talking about mice, definitely a favourite character for me!

Bob

Nice reaction. One thing you'll notice if you rewatch the final blow of Chainsaw v Katana is that Denji's leg is raised as he's going for a karate kick like blow, it's pretty cool. Hard to see on first watch which makes the reveal more surprising.

Nina

if he’s a devil then he can’t be a man 🧐

Chelly

If Angel Devil is a man, why am I attracted to him? Checkmate.

Cody

As much as I know that the painstaking technical quality and amazing confluence of talent and inspiration behind this show might never be replicated and executed this well ever again…. God I want Season 2 so badly. And it’s GOTTA be 2 cours, that’ll be enough to round off the entire first Major arc of the story so far.

AlexXis Amadeus

All my refreshing has finally paid off!

Youmu Senju

Before I start this I just wanna say thank you. Every Tuesday has been such a wild ride watching this with you, and it has made every moment incredibly memorable. This will go down as one of my favorite experiences in anime thanks to you and I will always go back and watch these videos. Can't wait to do it all over again when season 2 comes:)

Zane

“She’s so cute but she commits murders” CSM characters in a nutshell This was a great first season for sure, definitely looking forward to the next (whenever that happens to be)

Chelly

Hell yeah ! I can't wait for the rest of the show to be animated ! Also, denji with his rule " always go for the nuts " even when he had a chainsaw in his leg
