I still love that line "(Stark) he had a few suggestions once he got an up close look at our old turbines" Like really up close.. like caught in the thing about to die. Also watching this again I feel Sam at the beginning was being set up as a villain. When Steve says "You can't run everywhere" Sam kind of said in a sinister-like tone "No you can't" as if like saying "No you can't run from me". Anyone else get that?

Yep, sure enough. Even on a rewatch years later, this is pretty much my favorite Marvel movie. It had everything I want out of a superhero movie - great action and choreography, tension and twists, stakes that are high but not multiverse-ending, charming interactions between well-written characters, emotional gut-punches, excellent cinematography, and a clear vision with its pacing that ensures that it didn't drag or move too fast. Like Alicia said in Dark World, the scenes with the dark elves in that movie were a snoozefest and I was just waiting for them to go back to Thor, Loki, Jane... really, anyone else, just get these charisma-less goons off my screen as fast as possible until they do or say something interesting. In comparison, this movie didn't feel like it had any of those scenes at all. Cap isn't among my favorites in the MCU, but his movies consistently hit the best, to me.

Winter Soldier remains in the top 3 of my MCU admittedly I stopped fully watching all of them after Infinity War though I at least know roughly the plot of everything since. Still, Guardians is also an awesome film. (More so then even the studios thought that it would be)

a little detail someone pointed out thats so good and something i never noticed but as soon as sam starts talking about "oh, youre from 70 years ago? must be weird being in this time period now!" steve is about to dip out. he probably heard that conversation and been asked about it a million times and just doesnt want to engage, that is until sam starts talking about the problem with coming home and getting used to being mostly at peace. i really love that little detail

Winter Soldier is such peak Marvel. The Marvel movies were pretty sold to audiences as a big build up to The Avengers and we got that huge crossover movie hype delivered to us. Winter Soldier - I think - is the movie that sold the MCU as a whole to audiences. The movie that showed people that The Avengers was not the conclusion of all of that Marvel work, but the beginning of a saga of films. Winter Soldier should stand as a model for every franchise - including modern Marvel - of how you've gotta perform to bring the audience back into the universe after showing them what everyone thought was going to be the end of the big show.

Not telling you you should, but I think you'd really enjoy Agents of Shield. It's about (believe it or not) the agents of SHIELD in the MCU and the shit they go through in between the movies. It's got a really cast like Ming Na Wen (voice of Mulan and one of the most badass star wars characters you haven't met yet) and even brings in some folks from the movies over for like a crossover. It's pretty long with like 7 season I think but really think you'd like it for the plot and the world building

Since Batroc the Leaper and Arnim Zola have been covered, I’ll offer up a bit of comic book lore on the Winter Soldier and a little bit about Baron Strucker. The Winter Soldier aka Buck Barnes was introduced/brought back in the late 90’s or early 2000s after being thought dead for decades, even showing up in a team of dead heroes called the Legion of the Unliving at one point. As it turns out after falling into the Ocean he was found by the Russians and made into a cybernetically enhanced super assassin and kept in cryo in between missions. He then fell into the hands of the Red Skull who used him in a plot that ultimately ended with Captain America being assassinated (I’ll give you three guesses as to the long term ramifications of that). In the comics Bucky is now a super hero again and part of a spy team called The Thunderbolts. Baron Wolfgang von Strucker (the bald, German dude from the Mid Credits Scene is kind of the Anti-Nick Fury of Marvel and for a long while held the position of Supreme Hydra. You’ll see some more of him and the “twins” a little later down the road.

I really like how the MCU still tries to be more faithful to the more fantastical aspects of the comics while making them a bit more "realistic" or at least grounded. Zola might not be a robot anymore, but he's still a face on a monitor and has a camera head. Same goes for Falcon going from having a spandex suit with wings to looking like a next-gen soldier but still having his wings.

It's crazy to think that if Steve had truly died in the 40s like he was presumed to have, then Hydra would have been completely successful. It's only because Steve was frozen and was able to bring the idealisms of the 1940s American people to the present day that prevented Hydra from completely taking over, since their plan was essentially to systematically brainwash the nation into believing it would be better to operate under SHIELD exclusively.

Easy to dismiss Captain America (not being american yourself) as some silly mascot boy of a hero who you think will be a patriot and represent the extreme overblown values we outsider (tho probably americans too) find silly of the US that was high propaganda back in the day but even today. But with the first movie and this one, imo I think Captain America not only got the best MCU movies but also is just the greatest hero. Can't wait for the 3rd though cause imo, while the other two are peak, that one is the top of all MCU movies. You'd think it hard to keep peaking but Captain America movies somehow does it, likely cause both Cap and his movies are a lot more grounded with the struggles of all the characters and the fantastical super hero elements are a background than the focus, which just makes for a much more emotionally driven story.

It was iron man 2 i think. It's a nice detail that he was so hell bent on getting that tech into the "US government" when in reality it was him trying to get it for hydra. Kinda obvious now that i write it but still nice that this re-contextualizes some parts of past movies and makes you think how deep hydra actually was/is in governments and organizations around the world in the mcu that people still might not know about. Agents of shield goes into it more than the movies.

Can I just remark how awesome that elevator scene was? The thing that strikes me the most is the music. It starts out sad because Cap is mourning. Then with the first group that enters it starts out slow. Each time a new party enters the elevator you can hear the music kicking up a notch. All the while as the elevator goes down you hear the whoosh of the floors going by just building up that tension. Then that quiet before the storm as Cap says his line and the fight begins.

I can see why ppl would love both the trilogies, they're so well done . At first I didn't give enough love to the third movie of captain America but as time passed by , it became one of my favorites superhero film . For the first time , the tension between the heroes is tested in the most ruthless way possible and that last confrontation between captain and iron man nearly broke my heart . I was depressed after that . Genuinely so well written and acted by Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr.

I think my favorite would be the "Iron Man" saga solely becuase its not a trilogy, but is the most relevant story throughout the entire MCU. Tony is where this franchise started and even in other heroes' movies he remains an important figure.
