Yeah, no. All participation trophies do is cause people to think that doing the bare minimum is worth celebration. You celebrate excellence, because it encourages those that achieve it to continue doing so, and those that don't achieve it to continue striving for it. At the end of the day, you want to teach kids to do that best they can in everything, and to always strive to improve themselves. And you want to teach them that you have to work for things. I can speak from personal experience that being rewarded for you hard-earned achievements feels infinitely better than getting something just for trying. Too many parents coddle their children. Then those children grow into entitled adults, and become societal baggage.
