2025-06-04 00:51:59 +0000 UTCI like how from the very start of the movie, peter switches his guns to non-lethal when fighting most people. there isn't much attention drawn to it, but it really shows from the start that he's a good guy at heart.

2025-05-26 11:11:44 +0000 UTCAh Howard the Duck. While some comic fans know him. Us older people will remember that He had his own live action Marvel Movie YEARS Ago. One of the FIRST live action Marvel movies back in 1986. And it was BAD. lol So Yeah. Its a nice little Easter egg for the older people and Comic fans. Nothing else to it though.

2025-02-13 23:28:46 +0000 UTCAfter this movie came out, Baby Groot was all my girlfriend talked about. She adored him. For her birthday, I got her a Baby Groot that would "dance" to music it heard. She would set it up by the stereo speakers and it would dance all day while she did things around the house. One of the best purchases I ever made.

2025-01-26 04:30:46 +0000 UTCI can actually understand hearing this for Guardians 2, but for the first one? Really? Also there is comedy here, but to say it diffused the tension means you weren't paying attention at all since they didn't undercut the intended serious moments.

2025-01-04 12:04:59 +0000 UTCThis is one of my favorite movies in the MCU, probably top 3. It's funny too because on paper this isn't really the kind of movie I usually like. I don't usually like having a lot of jokes and comedy in superhero movies and I tend to prefer when adaptions at least try to stay true to the source. Can't really explain why this movie works despite the focus on comedy and doing something very different from how these characters are in the comics I've read. Actually, I think a lot of the changes to the characters were actually done in the comics first, there was a relaunch of Guardians of the Galaxy in like 2008, I think? I wasn't reading comics at the time, haven't really read those so I don't really know but I'm pretty sure Brian Bendis wrote the book and he's kind of infamous for not really giving a shit about the work of writers who came before him and doing whatever he wants with established characters. You know, I feel an autistic info dump incoming so I'm just gonna type an essay about the publication history of these characters, feel free to read but it's not really important. So the Guardians of the Galaxy was originally conceived as a team formed in the far future of the 31st century (one possible futured, dubbed Earth-691) where Earth had been conquered by these aliens called, uh, the Badoon I think? The Guardians consisted of Major Vance Astro, an astronaut who had been traveling in cryo sleep since the 80s; Charlie-27, a genetically modified giant man from Jupiter; Martinex, a crystal man from Pluto and Yondu Udonta, from Earth's first interstellar colony in the Alpha Centauri system. So the only character in this movie who was a member of the original Guardians is actually Yondu! Although he was quite different originally, the reason he has a mohawk and uses an arrow was originally because he was conceived as kind of a Native American in Space, down to his people being victims of colonization by a foreign power (Earth). He had a bow that he would shoot his arrow from but he also controlled it with whistling. The original Guardians were created in 1969 by Arnold Drake and Gene Colan. They would occasionally time travel and interact with the Avengers or the Defenders or whatever but otherwise they kinda existed in their own separate continuity. Star-Lord is a character who did exist very briefly in the 70s. First appearing in Marvel Preview in 1975, created by Steve Englehart, Steve Gad and Bob McLeod, he got a few features in Marvel Preview and Marvel Premiere as well as one singular issue of his own self titled book. He also lived in a future where Earth were fighting aliens but a different future from the one where the Guardians lived (Earth-791, entirely separate from Earth-691 you see). He had some similarities to his modern counterpart, like his name and the name of his mother as well as being a hybrid, but not a lot. I don't think there was much mention of Star-Lord after 1976 until likely 2004 I think when the concept was dusted off and given a second chance. Gamora in this movie is not too dissimilar to her comic book counterpart. Adopted daughter of Thanos, feared as the Deadliest Woman in the Galaxy. Believe it or not but she's also from yet another different future, Earth-7528! Her future however was only like 20 years in the future and Thanos from the main timeline went there, got her and brought her back to the main timeline, Earth-616. Her and Nebula don't really have the sister type relationship in the comics. In the comics Nebula is this psycho villain who claims to be Thanos' granddaughter and Thanos is like "I've never seen this woman in my whole life" except maybe he's lying? I'm not sure to be honest. Anyways, in the comics Nebula destroys Xandar, killing 5 billion inhabitants. When a Xandarian confronts her and asks why she did she basically says "it seemed like a fun idea at the time". Drax in the comics is actually from Earth originally. He was a jazz musician in Las Vegas named Arthur Douglas. However, Arthur and his family had the misfortune of accidentally seeing Thanos' ship when he was scouting out Earth so Thanos shot their car without second thought, killing them. It was actually Thanos' father who took what was left of Arthur and returned him to life as Drax the Destroyer for the express purpose of killing Thanos since he had come to realize that his son was irredeemable evil. Draw originally had fairly normal intelligence but later had his brain partially destroyed by a telepath and became actually mentally handicapped which, uh, never sat very well with me. I actually prefer how they did him in the movie where he's not stupid, he just thinks differently. Actually, me and a lot of others with autism find him very relatable. I also just really like Dave Bautista, he's someone I admire a lot. Anyways, Drax and Gamora were actually on a different team before the new Guardians were formed, they were other Infinity Warch together. Groot is pretty interesting because he's actually one of the oldest characters in these movies publication wise, first appearing in Tales to Astonish in 1960 where he was billed as "The Monster from Planet X" and was a pretty generic but tree themed evil space monster. Technically that story is still Canon but the modern Groot is a different Groot. Rocket Raccoon is actually a character I know a fair bit about since he's the brainchild of Bill Mantlo who I know as a Hulk writer. Actually, Mantlo used the 20th anniversary issue of Incredible Hulk as a sneak pilot to get his Rocket Raccoon character off the ground. He had tried once before in a Prince Wayfarer feature in one of the anthology books but Rocket didn't really take off from there so Mantlo put him in Hulk as well and then got him his own book for a mini series. He was quite a different character originally. For one thing he was very, very British, his dialogue full of British slang and such. You can still hear that in adaptions from before this movie, like Marvel vs. Capcom 3 where he has a British accent. He also had an almost Robin Hood like demeanor, being an outlaw fighting for the freedom of all his animal friends from the evil mole Judson Jake's and his arch rival Blackjack O'Hare. So yeah, quite different. Anyways, I think that's quite enough for now. Probably too much but I might ad well stop myself now before I go on about Ronan the Accuser and the Kree and the Nova Corps or whatever.

2025-01-03 02:51:48 +0000 UTCIt also made the initial "what are you doing?" Such a great line because he's such a lame villain that he drops the sanctimonious act out of sheer confusion and then pick it up again afterwards when he's a had a little more time to compose himself. It shows that he is acting a part, in universe.

2025-01-02 15:03:39 +0000 UTCSo, here's a fun fact: Vin Diesel's script had the meaning behind every line, and he was simply to read it as "I am Groot," in the tone of a given line. I feel it's most obvious in the "It's better than eleven" line!

Tor Andre Frantsvaag
2025-01-02 11:10:59 +0000 UTCOh man, I gotta pause and do an autism because I just made a connection that I haven't caught before in this movie. The pink alien babe in Peter's ship at the beginning says her name is Bereet and I just realized why I know that name. Bereet is a character in the comics who first appeared in The Rampaging Hulk in 1977. Rampaging Hulk was a separate line of comics from Incredible Hulk, the mainline book for Hulk, that was published by Curtis Magazines, an imprint of Marvel Comics. It was black and white with higher quality print and more pages than Incredible Hulk and told stories that were separate from the current ongoing in the main book, like when the Hulk fought the X-Men in Paris. Bereet appeared in this book as a mysterious alien who joined Hulk in fighting of an alien invasion (by other aliens). Later on after Rampaging Hulk was canceled, most of the characters from that book couldn't be used anymore (including a personal favorite of mine, Dr. Sheila Marks who was actually the first to suggest Bruce Banner might be suffering from DID) and the events of the book was rendered non Canon. However, Bereet showed up in Incredible Hulk and it was retconned that Bereet was actually a movie producer on her planet and the events of Rampaging Hulk were actually part of movies she made that basically amounted to fanfiction of herself going on adventures with the Hulk and his friends. Then she shows up in the main book and acts like she's actually friends with Hulk and Betty and Rick (Hulk's best friend who isn't in the movies) and they're all like "who...?". And apparently there is a Bereet in the MCU and it took me until now to realize. Ok, autistic info dump over, I'll go back to watching the reaction now.

2025-01-02 04:38:23 +0000 UTCGroot did sacrifice himself to save everyone, all Flora Colossus reproduce asexually, that twig that Rocket looked for and found is a core of a new Groot basically his son Groot Jr. Other notable characters are the duckman Howard the duck from a universe where duck evolved instead of monkeys, Cosmo the Russian Cosmonaut a good doggo that was put in a Russian Sputnik rocket and got flung across the galaxy and last you maybe recognize Yondu's actor from the Walking Dead he was Daryl's brother in the show before he died. Also the Howard the Duck movie believe it or not is actually a Spielberg directed movie not one of his best mind but it is one of his. Honestly it is a cheesy and somewhat bad movie but a personal guilty pleasure of mine to watch.

2025-01-01 22:22:48 +0000 UTC6:50 I totally agree, no one did something apprehensible but the situation was unfortunate. you could argue that leaving the child unattended at that moment was wrong and the grandpa was the caretaker at that moment but you can understand why he would make that mistake.

2025-01-01 22:04:44 +0000 UTCI don't think it suffers the same way Thor 2 does, I think the boring villain works with the goofyness from the Guardians. Ronan himself is forgettable because of it, but I wouldn't say that harms the enjoyment of the movie so I wouldn't dock points.

2025-01-01 22:04:12 +0000 UTCShe watched Thor 2, there's no point in skipping movies now on the basis of whether they're shit or not. Also Captain Marvel wasn't even worse than Thor 2

Honestly down either way I’ve never seen ultron, civil war, and doctor strange so I’m along for the ride
Nightmareman99
2025-01-01 20:37:13 +0000 UTCIf I remember correctly, I think MTV screwed Marvel over. It was their insistence that Howard be a physical puppet. This lead to so many issues with filming, the coists shot through the roof, and scenes just felt weird.
KatoBen
2025-01-01 20:35:03 +0000 UTCI'm so glad she loved this movie. I've been waiting endlessly to finally see her react to this one. I still remember when the trailers came out and everyone dismissed the film believing the film to not be worth the watch. I can't wait for her reaction to Guardian's 2 and 3, but damn, at the rate these come out, it's going to take forever.

2025-01-01 20:14:12 +0000 UTCA lot of people grump about the dance-off bit in the final battle, but I think it's legitimately genius. Ronan is a lifelong warrior, bred across generations to be the ultimate Kree soldier, a zealot and fanatic. The perfect tactical mind. At the apex of his near-victory... the foe begins dancing. And his brain short-circuits, because he has no preprogrammed response to that.

2025-01-01 19:55:42 +0000 UTCthere's a couple of clips in the credits before the end scene in Guardians vol.2 so you might want to be careful if skipping. I think there are 5 scenes including the end.

2025-01-01 19:00:02 +0000 UTCTo me at least, Guardians of the Galaxy breathed fresh air into a franchise that was quickly growing stale. I think it really helped that, unlike Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, and Hulk, I knew absolutely nothing about Guardians going in, so when my brother-in-law and I went and saw this in the theater, it was one of the best things I had seen in quite awhile.

2025-01-01 16:02:12 +0000 UTCMy final note: the end credit scene features Howard the Duck He was an early attempt by Marvel to make a movie of their comic book characters but the movie bombed. I think this was Marvel's attempt to gage whether fans were ready to give him another chance.

2025-01-01 15:32:17 +0000 UTCGod honestly one of my favorite marvel groups the cast is just so stacked and James Gunn’s writing is just so fun. Yes vin diesel play a tee that only ever says one word. He also went through and voiced his lines in 15 other languages 😅😅😅. And god I fkin love Dave Batista dude is literally a gentle gaint and has been poppin off his movie career since this film doing all kinds of different role. Gos I just love that man. And there is a reason why the camera didn’t track when Peter dropped the cube. Because it wasn’t international Pratt did drop it and they left it in because it fits his character. Yondu’s gibberish scene was also ad libbed
Nightmareman99
2025-01-01 15:21:09 +0000 UTCchris pratt actually did drop the orb on accident during the take and they thought it was funny so they kept it in, thats why the camera doesnt pan down at all, nobody actually expected it to happen.

2025-01-01 13:49:37 +0000 UTCAlso to note, yes Chris Pratt was chubbier. He lost a lot of weight just for this role. When his character returned to Parks and Rec they made reference with the joke, "So all you did was cut out beer?"

2025-01-01 12:59:13 +0000 UTCMy favourite joke in this film, "That guy's eye", "no, no we done". "i need it , its important to me". The childish snicker as he laughs it off, rocket is such a piece of shit for that xD, especially knowing that not so long ago peter fell for it and just robbed some guys leg. I know he paid for it but still, rocket must have fucking loved that. Great humour.

2025-01-01 12:52:40 +0000 UTCGuardians 1 & 2 are my favorites in the series, 2 is better IMO, but they're both peak. They always get tears out of me, but they also have some of the best comedy. Denarian Dey is a fantastic character, and I love pretty much all his scenes. Gunn is really good at that, honestly.

2025-01-01 08:29:48 +0000 UTCThis was a gift, thank you Alicia. Best MCU franchise. People mocked this movie before release because they hired James Gunn, a guy who, prior to this, was best known for two razzies. Now he's kind of a cinematic super-star because of his work on all three Guardians Of The Galaxy movies and the sequel to Suicide Squad. Currently he is taking up the Kevin Feige Marvel role in the DC movies, but none of his DC movies have released yet, so we'll have to wait and see on those.

2025-01-01 06:32:53 +0000 UTCI liked this movie sure enough, but I didn't love it. The opening emotional whiplash I tell you damn. The movie I'm looking forward to a lot is the next one. Of boy will I have a lot to say then. Thank you always for the reaction Alicia!

2025-01-01 06:21:54 +0000 UTCWhen this movie came out my own mom was still in the hospital. COPD was kicking her ass n tgey couldn't keep fluid off her lungs. She'd had a lot of chemical scaring from being an air force base cleaner too so the odds wete against her. But she BEAT cancer. I didn't get to say goodbye, I got to say see you later after a talk about plans for the next year and fighting. I don't even remember how I got from work to the hospital, but I remember her room and all of us there. The opening scene always wrecks me, same lighting, same crowded room, just hits a bunch of spots. Glad my cousin came to comfort me in the hall cause I could NOT stay in that room for long

2025-01-01 06:20:25 +0000 UTCThis is the movie that started Chris Pratt's movie career. He came from Parks and Recs into this. He lost a lot of weight and got into shape for this movie.

2025-01-01 05:54:31 +0000 UTCA fun theory is that (Peter) Starlord's grandmother is the blonde dancer in the Captian America First Avenger movie that got him to sign an autograph. Many also believe they had a one night stand and she pregnant which would make Peter Cap's grandson..👍...you can find many videos on Youtube on that Theory...👀
