Yeah, I'll be honest, I'm guilty of that one from way back when. To be fair, I didn't know about the rule at first because I don't usually check the highest tiers. But knowing what people sometimes send creators... I don't blame ya.

I already knew that rule and have been following it but I understand new fans might not know it. Also, to anyone that for some reason don't like the rule or doesn't understand why it exists let me break it down. 1. It stops people from harassing Alicia, you may ask why not just ignore her DMs but understand she still wants to use that feature with her actual friends (sorry not sorry, fans, including myself aren't her actual friends) and potential business partners, sponsors and Collabs. This is mainly a Discord rule but she needs to be fair and extend it to all platforms including Patreon. 2. It also protects her fans and her from slander. No one can lie and say "Alicia groomed me when I was under aged" then claim Alicia deleted the messages or other such things as she doesn't talk to ANY fans privately. 3. It's not just a rule for her. On her Discord no member is allowed to DM another. This is to stop things like harassment, grooming and gaslighting. But she needs to lead by example. The truth of the matter is that creator community and especially Discord have had many such cases in the past. Anything said between any members of her community and herself is fully public and thus any harassment, bullying, gaslighting or potential grooming can be spotted easily and put down promptly. It's not that hard to understand, please just follow the rules. If you didn't know them before and sent innocent messages, no harm done but you do know the rules now.

When someone new joins your membership, the new user is given an opportunity by Patreon to share why they joined the channel. They can select one of the provided choices and/or fill out a text field. Doing so is optional, but considering how quick and easy the prompt is, I assume a decent number of new people fill it out. Perhaps this information is then sent to the channel owner as a message? When I joined the channel this week, I selected an option and filled out the text field. I assumed my response went to Patreon or could be accessed by the channel owner in an efficient manner, but after reading your post, I'm feeling less certain. If my response was sent to your inbox as a message, I apologize for the inconvenience. In the event that this info is being sent to your inbox, perhaps there's a way to disable the feature going forward? It wouldn't solve your issue completely, but it might help.

Question: I'm just a pleb on patreon so, I don't fully understand how the higher tiers work, but is there any practical reason why redeems are done through DMs? Wouldn't a locked channel on Discord (similar to the patron-only channel) or even replying to a post here on patreon (since I saw that I'm not able to comment under a post I don't have access to) work better for you? That way you can strictly forbid DMs and manage redeems either in Discord or here directly. I'm just offering some ideas, there might be a reason that I'm not seeing...

With all due respect, free of snark, I think you (Alicia) need to address this with the Patreon platform -instead of- *in addition to your Patreon community. Explain to them that you choose to be at zero "trust and safety" with your community and want to modify overarching terms. What do I mean? Creators do not have to read or respond to DMs but Patreon grants any paid user the privilege of sending creators a DM. It's a core "perk" offered by the platform. Being nervous to post this comment, I would like to emphasize my point is it may be worth asking Patreon (as a platform) to modify their TOS.
