Straw Hat 832+833

THIS IS THE BEST EP OF THE ARC

Comments

I have my problems with this arc, but these two episodes are just damn good episodes. GOAT Jimbei #1 Brook #2.

Okoga

Brook once again the MVP of this arc lol

King of flames

seem like katakuri has the same voice as sakamoto lol

Lian Kojou

I love how you can see at different moments Brooks creeping around in the background during all of this as he makes his way to the picture.

Dekkarr

Its even more relevant then, since she is still growing up in a toxic environment with no love shown to her whatsoever. You cannot expect someone raised into being an evil serial killer with no morals to suddenly turn good when they reach adulthood(which she very much has already btw, even if she isn't legal in the eyes of the law), that's just not how that works. Good morals are taught to you by the way you have been raised and lived your life, you aren't born with them.

KaiserMichael

Yeah absolutely, but Alicia's point of view seems to suggest that even if you are literally groomed into being a serial killer and know nothing else as soon as you turn adult you should suddenly "know better" and turn into a good person even without any input which is just asking for the impossible. People learn from their surroundings and a kid who is shown zero empathy and compassion won't suddenly become a good person as soon as they turn adult if they are not teached about those things and you can't really blame them for it either. Its obviously a different story if they are shown both and still turn out evil but that is clearly not the case with Pudding

Karatsuki

I mean yeah people who were abused turn to abusers but the difference here is these kids are literally groomed into that evil mindset with ZERO compassion or empathy being shown AT ALL At that point you can't really blame them and we can see here that the first time she IS actually shown compassion she is starting to change. At some point when a child is being raised to be evil and is shown nothing else you can't just start blaming them for what they have become as soon as they turn 18 instead of blaming the parents up until that point its just not that Black and White Everyones situation is different and this one especially you can't just go "You are now an adult you should know better even though you don't know anything else" thats just asking the impossible Everyone learns through what happens in their life and you can't expect someone to learn from nothing and suddenly change when they turn adult without any input

Karatsuki

What makes the whole thing more messed up is that Big Mom gets rid of the dads, so the kids only parental comfort/care has to come from her

GildedGrimoire

pudding is 16, but i still agree. being that much of a menace for that long since early on still needs counseling

Yagi di Hoshi

she's 16 i think

Yagi di Hoshi

I generally agree with what you said about it being a problem when you become a shitty adult but to be fair to pudding she is still quite yound AND is still in her abusive enviroment. She hasn't had the chance to become better. And it's not like she can leave or be even remotely defiant the way most people IRL can, considering IRL abusers aren't walking calamities noone can protect you from that'll kill you

Nopoleon Y

……..WHY THE HELL WAS THERE A PENGUIN IN THE FORREST

Pirate King Buggy D. Clown

yeah

Yagi di Hoshi

Booooo! That was Horrible.

Chris White

Dammit just love it when a character just goes off for the first time. Look at "Newsie Bird" Morgans just get all up in all of this drama! Oh, and Katakuri is doing things as well I guess.

Ebofa

Now you understand why he is BOSS Jimbe!

Cashryn Sins

While a fine point well made, it's also ultimately irrelevant to the situation at hand because Charlotte Pudding is *16 years old*.

Manuel Müller

It's just very selfishly judgmental.

Lotus Gramarye

I guess my whole thing is, I disagree strongly with Alicia's view that being an adult automatically makes one wholly responsible for one's bad behavior. Like, if someone is stuck in a bad toxic environment, does it matter if they're a child or an adult? It's the exact same situation either way. And just becoming an adult doesn't let someone escape a toxic environment in the slightest unless they're very lucky or rich enough to establish some sort of independence. It's not possible for someone to better themselves until they're in a more positive environment and for a lot of people that can't happen until their closest family (i.e. abusers) are dead, which can take a lot of time (or they find someone who values them in spite of everything and gives them the support to escape).

Lotus Gramarye

Pudding is toxic just like the rest of her family but she's wel-written enough to where her being redeemed and likable isn't beyond the pale. Honestly even her toxicity is... understandable given that she's never been in a non-toxic environment. It's hard if not outright impossible for most people to be decent if they're stuck in such an environment. I don't remember in the slightest how she's developed beyond this but I hope she gets out and gets better. Would be a good representation of how a horrible person can better themselves if given a real chance. I've had toxic friends who've improved massively as soon as they've had respite from their primary abuser(s) and I guess I see that in Pudding. Though knowing Oda she's probably only gonna be marginally better and just there for gags if she gets any more screen time after this arc.

Lotus Gramarye

Brook blending in as an NPC always makes me laugh. He's just there in the background lmao

Maietsu

I'm pretty sure it was implied that at least some of them were her siblings, because no sane person would bully a child of Big Mom's, and expect zero consequences for it. Big Mom's family do have some care for each other, but they are also extremely dysfunctional when it comes to "imperfections"

BirthdayParty

I’d have to let it slide

Emperor Moist

BROOK SUCH A GOAT

Emperor Moist

And because the only fishman stupid enough to eat a devil fruit and be a pirate is currently chilling on the ocean floor like a chump after getting trunk'd.

Manuel Müller

One of Oda's big hobby horses is the idea of good vs. bad leadership. There's dozens upon dozens of captains, marine officers and rulers in every arc, and how we're meant to judge them is always connected to their leadership. Are they compassionate and caring toward their subordinates, or do they use them as pawns? Do they inspire loyalty or fear? Big Mom is a figure who, without getting into spoilers, is obsessed with belonging and family. But it's a twisted, controlling, cruel Idea of family that is powered by fear and internal competition for her affections. There's no love there, and it's all because of Linlin's shortcomings and, as we'll soon see, background.

Manuel Müller

I think there is a good bit of care between Big Mom's siblings, but there's also a degree of "personal survival". It depends from one to the other, but for the most part they don't seem to be in the business of cutting one another down, but they'll do what they need to ensure they don't get killed by Big Mom, even straight up lying like Opera did. There is a part of me that hopes that Pudding wasn't teased for her third eye by her siblings. At the very least, we know there are kinder people within the ranks of the siblings who might have sympathized with her being different 🍩

TheRoguelock

There's definitely parallels between Sanji and Pudding in how they're raised, but one thing that Sanji had as a silver lining (even though it didn't seem like it to him) was that Judge didn't care and let him leave, rather than try to keep him and use him. Big Mom on the other hand views all of her children as pawns that she can use, so she "values" them in the potential they have to increase her power, whether as fighters or through political marriages. Considering how much stronger Big Mom and her crew are, Pudding had a snowball's chance in hell of escaping. Honestly, Lola got incredibly lucky to get away, and that was probably due to the turmoil of her rejecting the marriage and the fallout of that. So Pudding was trapped with no real chance to be appreciated (outside of the value Big Mom placed on her) or told she was pretty, which led to her becoming like she is now. She's definitely a tragic figure.

TheRoguelock

The abused becoming the abusers/enablers perfectly summarizes the critique Oda posits about the Vinsmokes and Big Mom's kingdom. Both live by rampant exploitation and subjugation where the only good is what you can hide from others. And all it takes is a kind word and earnest love/appreciation to bring that kind of environment tumbling down. I dont blame Pudding for becoming what she is, I blame Big Mom, cause without Big Moms influence? Pudding probably would be the sweet girl she pretends to be. But because of Big Mom, the veneer of a miraculous society, when really its all just big mom's selfishness

Able

Yagi di Hoshi

Was DuFeld calling Stussy "old"? Fuck man OP revisits always hit hard

Jimmy H Lam

The children shown in Pudding's flashback aren't any of her siblings and in fact, the many children of Big Mom have close ties to one another because family connection is stressed a lot, but they are still pirates so there are times when they will cross that sibling boundary. One example is Lola, the siblings who heard she was alive felt surprised and probably relief, however they would follow orders to eliminate her if they were given that order and this goes for any sibling. So Opera afterwards is probably not gonna survive once Big Mom hears how he tried to lie and save himself because it's his fault they weren't prepared on the wedding day.

Draconic

We had a 3-tier cake for my wedding, and we easily fed over 50 people with only like a tier and a half haha. I can't even imagine how many people you'd need for a FIVE tier wedding cake!

Timmetry

Imagine if Luffy was there and ruin your wedding cake

lil savage 301

Germa66: we plan to ally big mom Big mom: i plan to betray germa66 Bege: i plan to betray and kill bigmom, but i need luffy to break that thing first Katakuri: i can see all your plans Luffy: jokes on you, i dont plan that far ahead, also, brook, plan something yourself to break that thing, im eating cake

Faroth

Gotta love brook deception rolls of "dont mind me, im just a random npc" in the background all the episode 🤣😂🤣😂 Jimbei can be the coolest, but Brook is the mvp of this arc

Faroth

so much happens in these 2 episodes.

vincent shiflett

44:39 - I hate when she says perfect pause but bruv rly hit the perfect pause

Easy Mode - A.I

43:00 I can't believe alicia expected this guy to be capable of dick shit.

Easy Mode - A.I

easily one of my top favorite op episodes

Connor Devine

some of the hardest moments in the series at the end! W Jinbei! W Brook!

Ramizis

I think it's beautiful that it was Sanji's unrelenting kindness the very thing that ruined Big Mom's plans... as well as setting Pudding free from the shackles of her own shame and self-doubt.

Julio Castillo

Jimbei. I must have future sight like KATAKURI, because I FUCKING KNEW ALICIA WOULD MAKE A JOKE ABOUT HIS DICK THE MINUTE HIS LEG EXTENDED.

Silver Tongue

Two of the MVPs of this arc, Jimbei and Brook!!

V_VMat

one piece having so many weird ass characters, that Brook can pull of a balloon for a head. top tier story telling

One G. O A. T. One Dream

Oh yeah, utter PEAK! In which we learn that Jimbie cannot ever eat a Devil Fruit, because his balls are solid Sea-Prism stone!

Seraphem

Katakuri is one of my favorite characters. It also helps that Katakuri shares the same VA as my favorite MC in JoJo’s.

Gilmez

Yaaay it's finally here, been waiting for 833 ever since this arc started :D

Cvillain626

jimbei's position in the strawhats is STANDING ON BUSINESS

downright darius

Haki is based on willpower and emotion. Those genetic modifications that make Germa soldiers all heartless killing machines also made them incapable of using Haki. That’s why the princes are all weaker than Sanji despite literally being built different.

unknown organism

One of Oda's big throughlines in how he writes his characters is that trauma affects almost everyone, even people from privilege, because of the inherent horrors of how the world works (CDs at the top all the way to everyday corruption and cruelty.) It's how characters adapt and grow from their trauma that determines if they're "good" or "evil". That's why Oda loves showing us parallel characters in his arcs: Law and Doffy being the big and obvious example, but in this arc specifically it's Sanji and Pudding. Both are treated by their privileged families as pariahs in their childhood due to factors they can't control, but Sanji stays true to himself and flees his abuse, while Pudding adapts and hides her "shameful" aspects and becomes a cruel, fake "actress."

Manuel Müller

listen i need that tyrade you know the one clip it and get it on tic tok as a sound

Lance Ivy

Bege: Shit Katakuri is gonna see this coming Luffy: He ain’t gonna see this coming.

Ryan Searle

10:30 Next you'll be carrying Twix in a holster

Trevor Appel

Someone please link me to that motivational video edit once it is made, thank you

Cybers Link

Yea brook came out of the cake with the Luffy clones and everything. Had us watching him make his way there slowly over the course of the episodes.

REI

833 is peak anime. The bombastic badass standing on business with Jimbei - crazy ass monkeys jumping out the cake and Brook breaking the picture completing the mission.... SO GOOOD!!

Silver Blade

PEAK PEAK!!!! PEAK PIECE!

HKelnix

I'm a fan of this video's code word. 😆🥰

Scrubthulhu

Yeah, none of Pudding's past excuses her actions, she has still done horrible things, but what little we saw of her past does explain and help us understand a little of how she became who she is. Sometimes that can serve as a way to show that a person themselves is not all bad, even if they have done some horrible things. But it's still up to that person to take the steps to not keep doing bad things.

DrFoto

More One Piece? THIS IS BIG NEWS!

Rej

The reason you love, Katakuri's voice so much is because he’s literally voiced by the same person who does the voice of your Gilf Joseph Joestar from JoJo’s.

TheRuralArtist

You do what is best for your health Alicia. Nothing wrong with waiting till your feeling better to stream.

James Anderson Hill

Also, if I may, a massive shoutout to Brook for having stepped up to be the two-time MVP of this entire arc. Man was left by the wayside for a few arcs then showed up to Whole Cake and just started running fuckin point and has not sTOPPED.

Koirby

Pudding still isn't an adult iirc. She's 16

CelticLeprechaun

Brook MVP of the season

Petter Uppvall

I HAVE BEEN WAITING SINCE MOTHERFUCKING IMPEL DOWN FOR THIS DAY, THIS MINUTE, THIS SECOND, RIGHT FUCKIN HERE. THE HARDEST MOTHERFUCKER TO EVER STEP FORTH. FIRST SON OF THE SEA, JIMBEI, IT IS *OUR* HONOR TO WELCOME YOU TO THE CREW OF THE FUTURE KING OF THE PIRATES, LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Koirby

Brook - Gets a copy of Road Poneglyph -Fights Big Mom -Sleeps with Big Mom -Destroys Mother Caramel Portrait Brook is the MVP of WCI!

Xanbry

yes it is. :3

Yagi di Hoshi

Judge loves his science and technology, and super soldiers, so he probably relies on that than using haki

Pawoof_

Of course katakuri feels like home it’s because the VA also voices Joesph joestar

rmplays

Love this but the condemning of pudding for her actions ‘as an adult’ doesn’t really work here because pudding is still 16, that’s far from an adult. I don’t blame u for not knowing tho cuz idk if it’s mentioned in the eps.

HamHam

Brook is the undisputed MvP of this arc, first strawhat to stand up to a yonkou 1v1, gets the poneglyph rubbing against all odds and now lands the definitive blow in the plan. Hes a real one.

Iamir

Brook came through in this arc🫡

Chase heo

Yeah, none of this was Pudding's fault; plus, there's a deeper reason on why big mom doesn't like pudding, which I Hope is explained in one of these 2 episodes.

Chris White

I think we all knew that you would've loved this one! And while Jinbe "not being afraid" is a peak scene, I personally love him returning the cup... it's such a "mic drop" moment IMHO. Like, "you couldn't take away my lifespan, let me at least return you the (empty) cup" XD

leviathan_13

come on alicia, you can't really Hate on pudding too much...part of the reason for her toxicity is how her mother and most of her family treats her. I bet if she was raised right, she'd be an Absolute sweetheart; Also, I've been waiting for Jimbe to say those words. the GOAT right there!!

Chris White

pudding stocks rising!

marlanes

Jinbei tanking Big moms Soul Pocus and calling her a mere emperor of the sea, and then Brook strolling up casually breaking the picture. GOATS both of them

Nick

The energy of "your a emperor, who are you" and your reaction is what other we've been waiting for. Peak

Aidan

Pudding gets some of the best characterisation in this arc, and Sanji’s kind acceptance of her third eye is a defining moment for both of them.

Sam Marsh

Brook is just the goat this Arc

bossbear the rock

I agree. No one can learn to be kind unless they’re shown kindness as an example. No one in Pudding’s life has been nice to her, including herself.

Dale Wright

You have no idea how hyped I've been for this

Kaz

LLLEEEEEEETSSSsss FUWWWAAAACKINGGG GO!!!!!!!!! MOTHA FUCKASS!!!! ! JIMBEEEEEEEEII!!!!!AAHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOOOOOOLY SHIIIIIIIIIT im FUCKING LIGHT HEADED!! RIGHJT NOW!!T_T xD JIMBEEEEEIIIII ONE OF THE BEST WRITTEN CHARACTERS IN ALL ANIME T_T

Rj Casido

I hate it when people say “how you were treated as a child doesn’t give you an excuse to be blah blah blah” because why does it have to be an “excuse” and not just a reason? People who use excuse do so to maintain their judgement of a character no matter. Also, that wasn’t her siblings that cut her hair or insulted her. Also, Brook has done more this arc than literally every other Straw Hat.

ichigo

Jinbei is proving why he is a goat
