As much as Luffy can be a savage, he almost never talks shit to specifically hurt someone. It's almost always him either asking for clarification on something that goes against what he sees plainly, him explaining something to someone in brutal honesty, or him just stating something he believes. In fact, most of the times when it's pointed out that his words were offensive to someone (and he has at least some respect for them) he will often apologize ... or double-down because it makes no sense to the truth of his perspective. But yeah, Luffy almost never uses words for the express purpose of hurting someone. So asking Luffy to talk smack about Katakuri to rile him up and lose his focus really is a fruitless endeavor.

2025-02-25 07:22:07 +0000 UTCSomething that you seem to misunderstand about this fight, about what Luffy said when he was recovering his haki, is that Luffy does not want to take the easy way out of this fight. He wants to beat Katakuri at his best, and he said that he wanted to do it before Katakuri's haki started to weaken. Luffy doesn't _want_ Katakuri to get angry. He doesn't want him to be weakened. He wants to beat Katakuri at his best. This might be the dub's fault, but in the manga, he said something to the effect of "If I can't beat someone like Katakuri at his best, then how could I ever face Big Mom or Kaido".

Its especially cool to notice how Katakuri talks to luffy tho the fight. Going from "you dogshit stain under my boot, go die" to "ok thats impressive but im still gonna beat you" and so on...

While I'm glad Luffy is starting to figure out his observation haki, after peanut gallery insertion my mentality has become "finish this fight now already".
