The bad side is King Piccolo. That is why Kami died when Nappa killed Piccolo, as they are joined in the soul. King Piccolo got old like Kami and made a wish on the dragon to restore his youth. Exactly what happened with Lord Slug here. Eventually King Piccolo gave birth to our Piccolo who was more of a rival than pure evil. So Piccolo was born hating Goku, but mellowed out when he took care of Gohan.
