I hadn’t seen this movie in a long time, but now I remember why I disliked it. it really should’ve been three different movies and the black suit should’ve come about in the second movie towards the end and then continue in the third movie and the third movie should’ve been all about him dealing with the new green goblin with Harry and then there should’ve been a fools movie dealing with the Sandman and then there should’ve been a sixth movie dealing with venom which should’ve led into a seventh movie oh wait no hold on. I think I meant a fifth movie then a sixth movie that has the lizard, but it should’ve been a bunch of separate films not all smashed into one movie with all those different characters because it just got to be too cumbersome and there was just too much going on where the characters had to change their personalities from one scene to the next and then completely drop grievances that they had just formed from a previous scene. It was just way too rushed way too much and it totally ruined the pacing. I think something similar happens with the Andrew Garfield series, but I can’t really recall cause I think I only saw maybe of a piece of one of those movies and I never really saw any of the others so hopefully Alicia watches the Andrew Garfield movies because I’ve never seen them before and it will be kind of interesting to see how they go

MJ keeps throwing up red flags. Dating Harry but will make out with strangers in an alley. Engaged to an astronaut but keeps pushing for Peter to say he loves her. MJ really doesn't give a shit about anyone around her, she wants to be the focus. She figured Peter would grovel at her feet for a crumb of pussy, so she kept leading him on. Then when she found out he was a superhero, she saw that she could get her a highly desirable dude who would worship her every step. The moment Peter isn't threatening to hang the critic or he's getting recognition for the lives he saves, she gets upset. So, what does she do? Does she communicate with Peter? Does she break things off with him? Nope. She jumps in the sack with Harry. She isn't some poor girl who is being mistreated by the hero, she is an outright villain who jumps from man to man as soon as she sees that the dude she's with won't give up everything for her.

To clarify Sandman's story, he was in Rikers for stealing. The cops found out about Ben because he supposedly confessed to his cellmate and were looking into it more after. It was confirmed by the time May and Peter were called into the police station that he was responsible for Ben's death.

Sam Raimi, the director, Was planning just for Sand Man and Harry because Sand Man was one of his favorite villains in the comics when he was growing up. Venom was shoehorned in by the bigwigs basically on top of the story that Sam Raimi had already put together. You can clearly see the skeleton of the movie it would have been, but given more meat to the important parts. Having peter be overly vindictive without being able to blame the symbiote… Having the Harry Osborn plot not rushed so heavily… it could genuinely have been the best of the three IMO.

the way ive always heard it was that Raimi didnt want to do venom period, and that their was supposed to be a 4th raimi/mcguire spiderman where the villains were the Lizard (who is the science teacher guy who has been in the other movies) and a sort of combination of the spiderman characters black cat and vulture into one female flying thief character (I suppose so as not to be overly compared to batmans catwoman maybe?) Anyway, once again, this is just the way ive heard it, but from what i understand the studio insisted on venom and raimi had such a bad time with it and renegotiating the contracts was turning into a nightmare so they decided to just reboot instead. When you watch the the first andrew garfield spiderman, you will definitely see a couple bits and bobs that feel like they were salvaged from some kind of Raimi spidey 4 script, and believe me they will feel out of place in that film.

So original Venom as villain is not supposed to be as main antagonist of this movie it is supposed to be sand man and they planned 4 one with main focus of Venom as main villain there featuring Black cat as sub villain in the story but half way of production they switched the narrative and did this, Eddy should died when he bounded with Venom leaving walking corpse, they cut so much stuff from the film, like Eddy confronts Sand man at playing ground when sand man pretends to be a sand castle for his daughter and second part when Peter when said the line fix god damn door, there scene after with mirror and Peter gets scared by his reflection that why he was shocked in that moment and they cut that part too

To be fair to Peter in the first half of this movie, he is a man who's spent his entire life being shit on by almost everyone around him, finally for the first time being recognized, so it's a really amazing time for him personally that's a massive change from what he's always been used to. Does NOT at all excuse his dismissiveness toward MJ. And of course, that kiss was inexcusable no matter what! But explains why he's so oblivious to her struggle at that time. Especially since he had no idea that her losing the job was a possibility, much less that it had already happened. His utter confusion when she walked away at that fancy dinner really sells it. He genuinely had no idea what was going on. Of course, he didn't try to find out lol. But he also was on cloud 9. His character is a lot better written than I remember (at least in the first half xD).

A fourth was planned but due to the failure of this they (Sony) took a break and rebooted the series with Amazing Spider-Man. How I would have fixed this without changing 'too' much of the plot is to give Peter the black suit at the start so the Gwen kiss makes more sense as well as Peter being such a dick to MJ in general. Peter takes of his mask and lets Sandman know who he is and why he's taking revenge before "killing" Sandman. Sandman explains he was just trying to save his daughter and toxic black suit spider man says something like, "then maybe I'll send her to see you." (Not serious but just f'ed up stuff the symbiote made him say to rub it in before he "kills" Sandman.) Once Harry gets his memory back, don't have him threaten MJ, actually have him seduce her away from toxic black suit Pete and make the break up real. Ditch the emo stuff and just make Pete a toxic, cocky dick. Get rid of the bar sceen and just make Pete hit her during the break up. Pete gets rid of the suit after realising it cost him the woman he loves and made him into a bad person. Once he takes it off have the symbiote sneak away and leave it off screen till the end of the movie. Peter visits Harry to tell him to take care of MJ, THEN, Harry reveals he got his memory back and rubs it in Pete's face. Peter then tells Harry the truth about his Dad and Harry tells Peter he already knew and that Bernard told him after he found his dad's Goblin cave. (Cue flash back but Harry didn't care.) He reveals he actually loves MJ and promises not to mess with Peter anymore if he doesn't try to get MJ back. Peter agrees and leaves. Sandman reforms and stalks Peter, believing him to still be toxic black suit Spiderman and a threat to his daughter. He follows Pete to the meeting with Harry. When he realises who Peter is in love with he kidnaps her to lure out Spiderman to kill him to protect his daughter. Both Harry and Pete go to save her, less goofy buddy buddy and more two people realising they may not be friends but they aren't enemies. Fight plays out without Venom but Harry still saves Peter by jumping in front the glider thrown by Sandman. Sandman is remorseful after seeing the heartfelt reconciliation and mutual apologies between Harry. He stops fighting Pete and stops fighing as Harry dies in MJ's arms. Pete and Sandman explain their misunderstandings, Peter forgives him for both Harry and Ben's deaths and Sandman dips but this time Peter says he will bring him to justice next time they meet. After Harry's funeral, Pete and MJ hug and Peter walks away like in the first movie. We cut to Brock in the church, sill pissed about toxic Pete exposing him, getting him fired and Gwen dumping him. Drop the whole stalker plot and have him and her actually dating, but she breaks up with him because he tried to frame Spiderman, who saved her life. He discovers the symbiote, it takes him over, he transforms into Venom and cut. Now, if this version does better we have a whole fourth movie with venom and Pete dating Gwen, giving Brock more reason to hate him. Have the symbiote talk to him and tell him that Peter is Spiderman. On this hypothetical fourth film, MJ and Peter are not together but still best friends as she is the only one Peter can talk too about being Spiderman. Maybe they still feel for each other but Peter is dating Gwen so we get a nice love triangle. (Maybe one of them could die at the end at the hands of Venom.)

Sandman and other dude were partners in the robbery. Peter went after the guy the police had eyes on assuming he was the killer. They didn't know there were two robbers. Sandman still ended up in prison because he was still trying to make quick (illegal) cash for his daughter. The police tell Peter and May that he confessed to the crime to a cell mate with multiple witnesses before escaping prison. A retcon? Most definitely. But there's no plot holes.

There was supposed to be a spiderman 4. But it was cancelled after this. Director sam raimi didn't like venom as a character. He personally didn't resonate with him since he liked his villains havin a bit of humanity to them and he didn't like the whole alien concept bu he was forced to put him in because popularity and money. The 4th movie was supposed to be a back to the more grounded storylines with Vulture as the main villain (yes the guy from homecoming) the movie's storyboards were a lot darker than the previous films showing a much more somber and more graphic plot with the vulture being a pretty brutal killer. (Sam raimi is a horror movie director so this is his kinda thing.) and the movie was supposedly hoing to add Black cat as a new potential romantic interest to start a new and progress the storyline of how peter and MJ's relationship recovers and they attempt to fix things. (Likely cause they tend to use black cat as an in between in stories to further accentuate why peter and MJ should be a thing. Although personally these movies portray their relationship in such a toxic and fucked way it makes it unbelievable that they're good for eachother). Anyways just responding to that.

I definitely remember people not liking this version of venom, they definitely should have done a 2 parter or a fourth movie focused on Venom, there was no venom love, this was just Eddie Brock wearing an alien. Black suit Spider-Man (bully macguire) and sandman are the best parts of this movie
