2025-04-08 18:21:02 +0000 UTCI see a lot of criticism of the 4th movie and I understand it but disagree. The first 3 movies are a trilogy showing the Development of Po into the Dragon Warrior. The 4th movie is its own isolated story, so to a lot of people it doesn't feel like its part of the series, and you shouldn't view it that way. There are many authors who wrote a trilogy, then wrote another book that was both part of and separate from the series.

But apart from that I just think Po is a deeply insecure person, so seeing him fail at the beginning is not because he is bad at what he is trying to do, he is just so insecure it's causing him to fail. These little X-Ray trivia bits are quit interesting. At the end (1:32:03) it says they have three more movies planed after this one. I haven't seen 4 yet, but these reactions made me look forward it and the once coming after that (if they haven't changed plans).

It's exactly how the awful tv show was and I think why a lot of people don't like this movie nearly as much as 1 and 2

I understood he was sacrificing himself but it’s hard to feel that way when it’s done in such a joking way with no real build up and moment after wards while in the other realm. When they were doing it in 2 the build up and pay off felt real. This one they just leaned too hard to make it feel more happy for kids. Which is fine but I just wasn’t hit by it.

2025-03-20 18:55:23 +0000 UTCthis is a good movie - the second one was more impactful because of how intertwined with Pos character it was. it had more personal lows and highs. there was no connection to the villain in the third movie, especially compared to the second. it was basically a fight between Oogway and Kai that Po had to finish.... which in itself is still a good message, that Oogway won by releasing control and entrusting others versus Kais taking. but it's not personal, it's not character based. in the second one, the villain had the means to defeat Kung fu but also, he was the source of Pos pain and confusion AND both Po and the villain had the same problem but chose to handle it differently. Po lost his family to tragedy and was wounded deeply and lost so much. so did the villain, who lost his parents due to the path he went down on. the villain chose to fight and use force to get his way and in the face of his pain he never looked inward, he even embraced his death that would end the pain rather than getting past it. while Po grew and found inner peace and was able to leave the pain behind. that's why it was more impactful. the third movie stepped up the stakes... but it was the same story and there was no connection to the villain for Po.

His escape from prison remains one of the great villain introductions. But I have a soft spot for more complex villains. Tai Lung is more of a plot point in Shifu's relationship to Po and the Five than a meaningful character in his own right. But all three were great antagonists. Kai mostly suffers from KP3 focusing a lot on the comedy and panda antics and relegating the overarching plot to the back burner a little too much.

Kai is in my 2nd place spot comfortably just off of his powers, intimidating presence (like you said) and he’s just overall a raw ass fighter. But I definitely see why you have Shen as your number 1 and Kai as your number 3.
