You know what fuck it. I know that Alicia is up to date on this series but this is my first time seeing it so I'm just gonna drop my theory here for what Lumon is up to. I think the point of Lumon's severed floor is to conduct psychological/sociological experiments on people in conditions that would not be possible on the outside. Them being severed essentially makes them blank templates with no lived experience which is ideal for experimentation. The existence of the severence procedure demonstrates that Lumon has highly sophisticated technology/information regarding the human brain. The jobs they're doing are not actually data sensitive, I think that the idea is to see how the inexperienced human mind reacts/adapts to various tasks, some of which are almost nonsensical (E.G. Goat Guy, and Macro-data Refinement) It also explains how what their doing is actually profitable, because the data they're collecting is potentially highly valuable and applicable to science, advertisers, employers, governments, etc. There are still a few things that don't really get explained satisfactorily by this, like the "scary numbers". Overall though this is the most plausible theory I've come up with so far.

And my extended family is _weird_ on inlaws. So when my Aunt who married into the family had the first Daughter there were some hard feelings I'm told. But when she was going to have the first Son _and_ named him after the son Grandma lost as a baby in a car accident. My mom decided to also play kinda. Dirty.
