I just realized how ironic it is for Peter to take his own picture in the Spider-Man suit. The fact that the daily bugle credits him, it’s funny as hell because he’s trying to stay anonymous. The general public will not know obviously, but still that’s the funny part.

I find it funny that in the action of Saving Max for the first time in the street, Spidey let at minimum 3 different people in other moving cars die when he left Rhino in the truck. I think he forgot that you're supposed to trade less lives for more, not the other way around lol. 3 people minimum for one guy's life that turned into a superpowered bad guy anyway. Just funny that this watch of it was the time I finally noticed.

If there's anything about this movie that's just completely undisputably awesome, Electro's theme (by Hans Zimmer by the way) is just amazing, between the whispers and the actually electronic/dubstep melodies, it just goes so hard. And I just personally always love the scene between Max and Harry where Harry slowly progresses from trying to make a deal with, manipulate, and use Max, to genuinely desperately begging for his life while getting dragged away after finding what might be his last chance to save himself when nobody else has his back. They work oddly well, two villains who had nobody else and no other way out, the desperation is palpable. Truly some of the best Spider-Man villains are the ones that wouldn't be villains if they just got some help.

Yeaaaah. While the movie did have a few problems here and there, it was honestly mostly really good. Peter and Gwen’s romance was well done and believable, Spider-Man was super fun and the action sequences were great. There’s honestly a lot more good than bad, enough that you could definitely overlook it. If they ended things after Electro. But adding both the Green Goblin and Gwen’s death-one of the biggest moments in the comic books that even Raimi wasn’t sure he could properly pull off-in the last few minutes was ultimately what made this movie a failure and why a sequel with Andrew Garfield never happened (until…well). It’s literally a case of a movies ending being so bad, it ruins it. Which is a shame, I think we missed out on some potentially great movies with Garfield as Spider-Man. But…well, I’ll save it for when she sees THAT Spider-Man movie.

I SWEAR I loved this movie when I first saw it. The writing is meh, but just how they portray Spider-Man in this movie is AMAZING. I specifically LOVE his swinging scenes because it's so stylish and feels weighty which trumps Holland's and Maguire's.
And bro, you think that's the end of Peter's trauma? You have no idea what he went through in the comics. Peter is DESTINED to suffer because Marvel editors are pieces of shit. Brother cannot take a break

Yeah the father deleted scene I both love and hate. First off gd Andrew is amazing but they dads acting is just so deadpan their is zero emotion to it. And the reasoning behind his return is just strange.
He could’ve just said it was because he heard of Normand Osborn’s death and with him gone no one else was after him. It wouldn’t made so much for since than. I heard your gf I never met died. Yes he need a win but gd this kid has had so much trauma and you wait till now?????
But anyway some of the deleted scenes for the film has lots of cool ideas left out.
Everything from Harry showing Peter that oscorp was keeping tabs on him and his family for years to an extended cut of Gwen’s death where Peter, in a fit of rage starts beating the hell out of Harry only stopping short of killing him remembering what uncle Ben said.
Also had some pretty barebones scenes of Mary Jane throughout the film. Introducing her as Peter’s neighbor, as far as we know in this film she’s a biker girl and once again has an abusive father like the og films.
But yeah in this comic run Gwen dies and it haunts Peter for he then eventually gets together with Mary Jane. If a third film ever got made I guarantee she and The Sinister Six (the team Harry was referring to at the end) would have had a major role.
The Sinister Six is basically Spidey’s villain league. They have a shit ton of different ppl join and leave the team but based of the secret lab scene this is who we’d most likely see.

Absolutely never understood why he got so panned. He nailed the pain and tragic heroism of Peter Parker from the comics so epically.
That whole loss and self blame element is what made Spiderman who he was in the comics more than anything else and going through the pain and grief with him within the pages of the comic humanised him more than almost any of the other superheros that existed at the time. Andrew Garfield took that and blew it out of the water in the best way.
Loved all the spiderman movies (except for Spiderman 3 which I found a bit too meh after the joy of 1 and 2) but Amazing Spiderman 1 and 2 will always be special.
We will never forget Gwen Stacy.

I'm glad you liked the soundtrack. People really hated all of the Electro music when this movie came out.
As for the Gwen death, there was a huge comic vs non-comic split with regard to it because in the comics, Gwen Stacy is (or was, Spider-Gwen exists now) most famous for her death. It was kind of unique in that half the audience were blindsided and the other half knew exactly what was going to happen. It's pretty much why Spider-Gwen exists in the way that it does. In that universe, it was Peter Parker that died instead of Gwen Stacy.

The way they shot Gwen's death reminded me of when Rhodey fell from the sky and hit the ground in Captain America: Civil War. While they were two entirely different things, they had the same "misdirect" in making you feel like everything will turn out fine until the final twist. I wonder if Civil War took inspiration from this.

You're just wrong. It was absolutely about the MCU. The weakest parts of the movie were the Sinister Six setup and executives realized this. It had nothing to do with Gwen's death being too sad. Your anecdotal evidence is irrelevant. The random people you talk to on the street aren't Sony lmao.

As much as this movie is weak, I feel like it has the absolute highest highs of any Spider-man movie in terms of being a Spider-man movie.
Gwen's death is amazing in this. The hand web is awesome imagery.
I will die on the hill that this is the best score for any spider-man movie. Hans Zimmer killed it. Both Spider-man's theme and Electro's theme rule.
The intro scene of him stopping the robbers, the montage of him helping out new yorkers, and the final scene are the best "Spider-man" scenes imo, equal to the train scene from Spider-man 2.
It's not the best Spider-man film if I'm looking at it objectively, but it's probably my favorite. The things it gets right, it gets REALLY right.

Gwen's death in the source material in many ways the end of the Silver Age of comics and had such a profound scar on Peter's life afterward for obvious reasons. Funnily enough, though, in Mexico they actually started writing their own comics from that point onward where not only did Gwen love, butnher and Peter got married.

Gotta remember the backstory for Spider-Gwen in the Spiderverse movies. She couldn't save the life of her best friend, Peter Parker. Gwen's death was one of the classic shakeups in classic Spiderman Comics. The Death of Peter's first love before Mary Jane. Peter Parker classically was built on being a human made of 95% guilt.

I bet some others have pointed this out, but just in case I can't miss the chance to make the ending sadder lol.
The original version of Gwen's death in the comics was inadvertently Peter's fault. He caught her in time to save her from the fall, but he webbed her ankle and the force snapped her neck. It's yet another in a long line of "Peter Parker Can't Have Anything Nice" moments in Spider-man's history.
Peter being just a hair too slow was fucked, but holy shit the original is so much worse lol.
I had a comic as a kid that took place in the future where Peter and MJ's daughter tries to save him from a hypnosis dream where he's living a normal life with Gwen, and Peter didn't even want to leave. If I remember right he did it willingly too, but it's been years since I've read it.

Some of the ideas in this movie I really liked. Peter’s dad putting his dna into the spiders and that’s the reason it worked on Peter (almost like it was destiny) and Oscorp being the Epicenter of the corruption and evil in New York so it’s a war between Spider-Man and Oscorps army of supervillains. The execution is where it fell apart for me.

Your feelings over the death of Gwen Stacy are valid. Others have talked about it here already so ill just add that Gwen haunts Peter for the rest of his life. The loss of his first love because he just wasnt good enough.
The night Gwen Stacy died was so impactful it marked the end of the Silver Age of comics and effected a lot of characters in universe both at the time and forever moving forward.

Everytime you brought up how great Gwen is and how happy you were for the two of them to be together…I felt pain for what was coming 😢 her death is still so sad to watch and Andrew Garfield really reminds me how great of an actor he is in the emotional parts of the film.
I do like Tom Holland as Spider-Man, but I honestly would have rather they kept Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man and continued his story. I just wanted to see him happy again…

That death was one of the most shocking events in Marvel comics history, and it was one of the things that defined Peter both as a person and as Spider-Man for the rest of his life. It haunted him for a very long time. Changed who he was, even. Luckily, Mary Jane was eventually able to pick up the pieces.

I am glad you covered this one. Watching it again made me remember a lot of repressed memories. Not from the film, it was serviceable. No, I was on a rebound date (I know I shouldn't have, but a friend wanted me to meet their cousin) after my 3-year engagement spiraled (I might unpack that in the comments at some point). Anyway, the date I was with not only shat all over this movie, which honestly, I don't mind ripping on movies in the theater as long as it is not crowded and not loud, but afterwards just went on tangent after tangent about a whole lot of different conspiracy theories that had NOTHING to do with the film or our night out.
I had to drive this crazy a$$ home in a 2-hour car ride! (We live in the sticks so it's whatever), and she would not drop the idea about Obama being a lizard man, and how fluorine in drinking water makes people more docile to control which is why the government does it, or how corn is going to be the next super crop for replacing fossil fuels (The last one might have merit since we use corn and other grain to make alcohol) but the rest was just the ramblings of a complete basket case!

2:27:03 Ironically, thats pretty much the reaction anyone has whenever they read a Spider-Man comic for the first time. Unfortunatly these are the kinds of stories Spider-Man writers are known for, just new and inventive ways of making Peter suffer...the movies usually ton it down for the general audience. But not this one, here they depicted the gruesome and sudden death, just as it happen in the 1973 comic (minus the bridge)

Ok so The Death of Gwen Stacy was SUCH a big deal. It’s quite literally the story that changed comic books. It made comics as a medium go from the fun ‘Silver Age’ of high flying adventure, to the ‘Bronze age’ with more serious storytelling.
Honestly Gwen in the movies borrowed more from Mary Jane in the comics in terms of personality (as in Mary Jane actually has one and Gwen didn’t) but the chemistry between the actors really made us feel for her.

ok so fun fact: hollywood like to exaggerate things for spectacle, the reality is firing a gun in pressurized environment wont actually rip a hole in the plane. It would leave a bullet sized hole yes, and it would slowly start to depressurize the cabin, but it wouldnt create a catastrophic failure.

While its super sad, its also very true to the source material. People have demanded for years that they let him be happy, but they are just not good enough writers to have a loving relationship last.

I wish Amazing Spider-Man 3 was made, lack of fan support back in 2014, plus poor reception. Plus already moving on to MCU Spidey. I really wanted Felicia Hardy to be in the Black Cat suit to show up. And they already casted their version of Mary Jane in a deleted scene for Amazing Spidey-2. And then the proceeding idiocy of Sony's other projects that aren't Venom related.

They were not subtle about what was going to happen in this movie with the way they advertised it. They didn't do anything to give it away to anyone who didn't already know, but if you were familiar with The Night Gwen Stacy Died, they made sure you knew that this was it and she wasn't going to make it out of this movie. They didn't bother to pretend for a second. Which was the smart move, because it gave some of us some doubt. They were being too obvious. They were going to pull the rug out from under us and swerve it.
Nope.

So yeah, fun fact or i suppose maybe not really that fun. Gwen Stacy was introduced as Peter’s first love interest and inevitable first girlfriend in 1965. She remained Peter’s girlfriend in the comics until 1973 when she was killed in The Amazing Spider-Man #121 I believe. It is easily one of the most famous and most well known deaths of any character ever in comics. At that time in 1973 killing off main characters love interests was like not common place, it was like a one of a kind moment. After that Mary Jane Watson was introduced (as a love interest, Peter had met MJ much earlier in the comics) and the rest is history.
