The issue in my opinion is our dripwoo put himself in a lose-lose spot. He didn't want to go and yet put in backups so he could teleport there if he was needed. The public doesn't know that. Therefore to them he only showed up basically because he felt like it, with the perception to them that he had to travel there and only happened to arrive in time. Had he just gone that perspective would have been null, even if he decided to not fight immediately and act as an S-rank in backup with the excuse that as a new S-rank he might get in the way of the "more seasoned s-rankers". Hey though, what's a story without a bit of public drama?

That was like the one time he has been shown to actually have a personality beyond aura farming. < rant>I mean, I was originally coming down to the comments to complain about how this episode pissed away a chance at character development. He could have had his Uncle Ben moment here, but instead Baek and Go start glazing him.
