I think logistically Black Maria cant be Yamato's mother, I think she is only like 1 year older from memory, or they are the same age

Orireth

Thankfully she makes a point to avoid One Piece comments.

ChaosSepher

Everyone casually spoiling ab yamato in the comment wtff

Froze

This marks the episode where one piece finally starts using higher quality impact frames

Emperor Moist

To clarify the below comments; Oda never personally commented on Yamato’s gender; this misconception comes from a Vivre card, which is supplemental material not written or necessarily endorsed by Oda. There is an argument that Yamato is closer to genderfluid or nonbinary, but the character isn’t referred to or treated as feminine by any character including themselves within the manga and is explicitly treated as masculine by the Strawhats (minus Sanji).

Egregore

You're ignoring Yamato said he became a man because of his admiration for Oden. You're also ignoring Yamato himself said "I'm Yamato! Kaido's SON"

Ado Bleuler

For anyone STILL confused about Yamato and their gender identity and/or if they're trans or not: Gender (as in the expression of your sexual identity) is a much more fluid idea in traditional japan as it is now, and ESPECIALLY compared to the west. Cross Dressing, for example, is an important part of that. Izo and Okiku are great examples. Izo sees himself as male, but he grew up in a circus troupe performing as a geisha girl, so he still wears a woman's makeup and clothing, even though he's completely grown out of it. At the same time, Okiku is described as "male, but a woman's heart" (direct quote from a vivre card), which would fit closer to a western idea of "trans". At the same time, Yamato is kinda complicated. Oda describes Yamato as a woman straight up. However, Yamato themselves describes themselves as Oden. That's not a gender identity, that's a historical person. You're not gonna see people give me trans support for identifying as Margaret Thatcher when I'm a young black guy. So Yamato is canonically a woman that aspires to be Oden (in all aspects, including gender). It's not the gender that's relevant (Yamato themselves says it as "of course!" as if it's no big deal, which it really shouldn't be), but the personality behind it. So now comes the "interesting" part: The pronouns and gendered words. Kaido has referred to Yamato as "Musuko", which we would regularly translate as "son", but it does have the common translation of "person that is my heir". It does have a specifically male connotation, don't get me wrong. Does it necessarily mean "man"? In probably most cases, yes. However, as I said, Gender is more... fluid (for a lack of a better term) in japenese. First of all, there's no "gendered" pronouns in japanese to begin with. There's only "trends" in the words you use. A guy will use "Watashi", and a woman might use "Ore" (on very rare occasions). Those would be the traditionally female and male "i", respectively. But the other gender uses them, based on situation. Of course, Okiku uses both the "O-" suffix (which means both "great" and "woman" in japanese) and the "Sessha" for "I" (which is a higher formality, i.e. similar to "we" in medieval europe, basically stating "I" in a way that informs others you're of a higher birth. Paradoxically, it means basically "I who is of lower skill", so it's really humble). In this case, it suggest they're a samurai, which historically is a male only class. So these are not really pronouns, but words representing stuff in a social setting that may or may not be related to sex and/or gender. For example. "tomboys", while not identifying as men, use male "pronouns" for themselves sometimes, even today.. This MAY also include their parents using the term "Musuko". Does that mean Yamato is DEFINITELY a woman or DEFINITELY a man? If you still think either, you might need to get yourself immersed more into japanese culture. tl;dr: Gender has a cultural aspect and your idea of it might be changed by looking at the cultural context. Also: If I got anything wrong here, please correct me. I'm only a student of japanese culture and language.

"a lot of transphobes", my brother in christ the writer of the fucking manga said Yamato is a woman, people kept saying this was apparently a big controversy in the OP fandom and i thought they were overblowing it cuz its the internet, but damn theres actually people delusional enough to go against what Oda himself stated, thats crazy. I only hope all these comments don't reach Alicia and spoil her before the reveal cuz apparently nobody can keep their mouth shut

Goobert

just a heads up; I know Alicia doesn't read comments no more, but if one of her friends would pass on the info; Kiku is trans woman (she/her), but her older brother Izo is he/him, he just cross dresses. also spoilers, but inform her when Kaido's son is shown, he's a trans man, a lot of transphobes and gooners try to call him a woman, but he isn't. home boy is just happy in his body.

ampersand

One of my favourite bits will always be that the guy named Killer is the only level headed one of the group

Vokiman

You know it's weird I usually agree with Alicia on One Piece but I just hate Kid so much. He's just such an edgelord who think he's better than everyone else without actually doing anything. Makes me want to PUNCH him in the face

Funny Hats Incorporated

The reveal of Yamato, the hottest man in all of One Piece, approaches!

Doctor Geagle

I don't think he's even a crossdresser, he just likes wearing lipstick.

Doctor Geagle

Izo is male he's just a crossdresser, so you can use "he"

Rick Baron

the difference between Leon and Sanji is that one lives in a zombie world and the other lives in a pirate world

Joyo Boy

She binged wandavision, that count as 3 movies

Faroth

3:30 "luffy's imagination is his stronger point" Remember those words

Faroth

anyone know if we're getting marvel ?

Andhy Salvatore

I simply can't wait for you to meet Yamoto, I suspect they will be a new favorite

DeathHawk31

Subtitles were ass, what is a port should be what port, and when Marco kicks the ship down, it should be by the time you make it back up, it will be a new era. No idea what went wrong with the subs here...

chris johnson

it's likely an issue with the subtitles and is meant to be "what port" meaning she didn't know about the port entrance also for a bit of clarification, okiku is a woman but her brother izo still identifies as a man (as far as I'm aware, maybe his vivre card states otherwise) so you're okay with addressing him as him:) he just enjoys slaying in lipstick

Santi

Alicia if this was really a Kill Bill movie, there'd be a lot more bare feet.

Patrick Thatcher

Kid's tsundere ass would be all "I'm not walking with you! I'm just going in the same direction!"

Wil DeYoung

So fun fact (that's mentioned outside of manga and anime) ulti and page one are kaidos god kids that where put in his care after their father died

Mat G

Anything new for Marvel Monday?

Arian Khalil

This is definitely the best part of Wano. There are still some parts that feel like they drag some, but it’s mainly because there are such big fights looming and because they use Flashbacks to save up for killer fight animations.

BakaSama

Since she's getting close, hope someone informs Alicia that Ep 1000 has a special opening which is part of the milestone event and doesn't need to be skipped to avoid spoilers. Also no recap to slip past, giving more runtime to the main content ...The episode's title isn't even a spoiler, so there's nothing that she'd need to skip and can just enjoy the whole Ep 1000 experience.

Bo Ferguson

WHAT IF WE TAKE OFF HIS HANDS??? Ah yes Alicia is starting her Robin arc... xD Sure lets take his hands, but don't destroy em... they might come in handy... might be useful if we need to give someone a hand... but chopper has to be the one to amputate, he is a doctor after all... with hands on experience I bet... xD

TheGodofCruelty

Yagi di Hoshi

Very excited for you to see the fights this arc

Icy

Well, here we are in the slow ass pace territory, well tbh that was since a couple of episodes ago, I hope that binging it alleviates some of that feeling.
