Kleya is probably my favorite character in star wars closely followed by K-2SO

Thrawn fought hard to get the stardust ( code name for the deathstar) program shut down viewing it as a weapon of terror and ineffective. Thrawn wanted a program for tie fighters with shields, better firepower, and maneuverability, basically these fighters would outclass even the iconic X-wing. He viewed them as able to be in more places and thus a better use of resources. He was well underway of getting his program going but Rebels and push back from Tarkin and Vader shut down his program. Also the Sith code, is very much about not letting things hold you back nothing in it says subjugate and oppress. The issue is if you are going to have space monks why not have their opposite people who indulge their every whim and twisted desire. I like to think the Sith code is not allowing things from stopping you from reaching happiness, be it social, family, or even your own self doubts.

Something I always liked about Divination or Prescience as a power are the different types. Some characters like Paul Atreides can see all possible realities while others like Anakin are much more limited where they might see 1 possible future, and their reaction to the vision could be the cause. Palpatine might see the rebellion in the future and think whipping everyone into making this superweapon faster will be the solution when it was the rebellion's catalyst.

Low key the Death Star *is* stupid. The problem is that the Emperor, while deeply cunning and great at acquiring power, is also essentially a religious fanatic, something that I think a lot of people tend to overlook. And his religion (the Sith) worships power, control, domination of others, and a philosophy of social darwinism. Once he became the Emperor, he wasn't satisfied with having "won", he had to prove his ideology right and try to imprint it on the whole galaxy, even when it was counterproductive. For example, a military works best when everyone in it knows that they can depend on everyone else who wears the same uniform to have their back. Palpatine changed it into to reflect his social darwinist beliefs, thinking that the strongest would rise up and the weak would be cast aside. Instead the officers who were best at playing the political game or had the most connections rose up the ranks regardless of their skill while more talented officers had their careers stagnate or cut short. It also split the Imperial military into factions and a snake's nest of in-fighting, where it was known that rival commanders and officers might abandon or refuse to support you in a time of need, or send you out on missions where you were expected to be killed. The Death Star was the ultimate attempt at power and control, and it was just another expression of Palpatine's attempt to implement his vision of domination over the galaxy.

It's not about an enemy that's currently in the universe; it's about what future enemies the Empire will face. Palpatine is a Sith lord who's good at making strategies, so his approach this time around is to build a weapon so big and so terrifying that nobody would ever dare go against the Empire. He also might be able to see the future... not sure on that one, but if it were true, he would know that a rebellion is about to start and would be trying to destroy any dissenting opinions.

Also, the Death Stars used a massive amount of kyber crystal. I know there are more than one location, but it does cut some sources for any potential Jedi or Sith rival to find them for their lightsaber.

No spoilers but clone troopers doesn't equal storm troopers. Also you can see the death star plans in Attack of the Clones it wasn't a new idea

In the old Canon the reason why Palpatine ordered the construction of the 2 Deathstars was.... One... to keep the entire Galaxy in a state of fear of their planets being blown up and therefore securing total Imperial Domination. But most importantly.... the Deathstars were Palpatine's preventive defense measure against the upcoming Yuuzhan Vong invasion, an entire species from another Galaxy that were coming to conquer this one (the Yuuzhan Vong are basically the Star Wars equivalent of the Tyranids from Warhammer 40K). In the new Canon... the Yuuzhan Vong plotline was completely scrapped in favor of... whatever the Sequel Trilogy movies were doing, so here the Deathstars were left being just a Fear and Power Tactic by Palpatine, which in retrospective does make him look far more short-sighted.

A big part of the reason is Palpatine wanted to basically not have to deal with stuff, he thought the Death Star would make resistence impossible thus he didn't have to deal with that concept and would have more time for Sith studies

I dont know if this counts as spoilers. If you want to know exactly what happens to the clones you need to watch the bad batch which is after clone wars.

The Death Star program wasn't super popular with certain Admirals in the navy, who wanted to basically just upgrade their regular star destroyers and roll out new, better TIE fighters instead, which would have been waaaaaay more cost effective. But the Emperor wanted a planet killer to make everyone in the galaxy shit their pants at the thought of resistance.
