2024-04-12 21:50:00 +0000 UTCI mean I'd say it's intentionally blatant. The whole thing with Lügner is that he's so obviously a piece of shit manipulator. The narrative never really pretends that he's trustworthy, it's just humans trying to look past an obvious threat as a last resort. For him to be the literal "Lord of Liars" just drives home how trusting him at all is the wrong move. And honestly it's not that silly in relation to other direct German translations for names. Darth Vader is still the absolute funniest to me that the big twist was the guy named "Dark Dad" was the protagonist's evil dad lol. But that's just my reading of it.

All of them are just very basic german words, although I guess they also serve as very basic discriptors of the characters and their personalities: Frieren (Shivering/to be cold), Himmel (Sky/Heaven), Eisen (Iron), Heiter (Cheerful), Fern (Distant/Far Away), Stark (Strong), Flamme (Flame). I already thought Qual (Torment) was a little on the nose, but I honestly can't with them calling the demon ambassador Lügner (Liar). Gee, I wonder if the guy is gonna be trusthworthy or not?
