Kimblee couldn't transmute the metal pole without drawing a transmutation circle. The ones on his hands are only for his crimson alchemy, and he has not seem truth so he still needs circles.

That’s neat; I knew he clapped his hands cuz his circles were inscribed on his palms, but I never questioned what kind of alchemy it was. Knowing it’s a combination of two energies that don’t mesh well and react violently and he just guides the energy is interesting.

so the reason Kimbly didn't transmute the pipe or transmute his body with the philosopher's stone is bc the circles on his hands are specifically to represent silver and gold and the sun and moon and representing opposites in general. when he claps his hands together it makes 2 "opposing" forces combine into an unstable energy and when he focuses that unstable combo on other things it makes them explode. He's never seen the truth, so he can't just clap his hands and make stuff happen. His circles are just not designed to do that kinda stuff
