The anime added in the parts about her childhood. This wasn’t even present in the manga at all. The backstory that we got for her in episode 3 was actually first shown in place of that in the manga.

She did say that if she let Mahito escape he could do some more damage later down the road, and so she chased him down into the underground subway to try to stop him.

Even AgK waited more than 2 episodes before killing off two fan favorites in what is what I would guess about the midpoint of the series. Plus the deaths usually meant something or tried to progress the plot. Nobara just dies for no other reason that I can see than "fuck yuji he is good friends with her"

I think that a lot of people's problem is that Gege just got a character death boner this season and killed off 2 fan favorites in the span of 3(?) Episodes. Even I who doesn't usually let media bother me was kinda off-put by thus and had to take a short break from the show.

I'm gonna be honest, and probably a hot take here. Nanami's death I am willing to look past. His arc was fulfilling, and he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Nobara though I take issue with. Her arc was great but there was still so much room left, and she would have more than likely been completely fine if she hadn't followed mojito. That was bad judgment on her part. Yes she thought she would be fine but she also didn't have all the info, but still figured out that she was struggling with a COPY that couldn't use its technique. (Plus she was one of my favorite female leads in a while I am allowed to seethe a bit)

Its a bit cathartic to see a few other comments here saying that killing Nobara here was such a terrible waste of her character. It's a bit crazy to say, but this moment made me lose all my interest in the series. I read the remaining chapters at the time after this, but now I just don't care to go back.
