This isn't actually set in China, just a fictional world that is sort of Chinese-like. It becomes more relevant in the later books when the story grows beyond just the palace.

I'm so glad that this chapter talks about the explosive qualities of flour (or any airborn material in powderform, that can burn). It's something that not everyone is aware of, because the danger isn't obvious.

explosions like that are STILL a problem, yeah were doing better now then before, but we still have had explosions in recent years. 2023 was the last one that I could find on the news.

That flour explosion thing was a huge problem once industrial flower mills started. The worst one was so powerful that it completely demolished the entire building.
