Frieren Ep 25

What neighboring kingdoms? The Empire clearly dominates like 80-90% of the continent already based on the map, no?

The thing I appreciate during the fight scene was how many times the "180 Rule" was broken to emphasize the mirroring theme. Frieren starts on the left after she uses the lava spell, the camera changes and real Frieren is on the right side. The replica then swaps with Frieren but the camera holds the angle, so now the replica is on the right side. Frieren casts a spell, the camera shifts and shows the replica, now on the left side countering the spell.

V true, depopulation is a major catalyst for collapse of industries all the time during eras when full scale war was more common, noble bloodlines changing and royal houses weakening as long loyal families die out due to bad fortune or straight losing conflicts

Very late response, I just got here, but on the topic of you used to see way more Mages around in the past: The dude who invented Zoltraak, whose name I forget, was said to have been responsible for the death of around 70% of Mages. He probably wiped out numerous Mage bloodlines and now fewer people are being born with the natural talent for it. Fewer families specifically raising their children to be Mages from a young age would probably result in there being less Mages overall, yeah?

Gap between fern and other mages arent as big as the gap powerhouse like frieren. There are too many variables to say fern will win for sure. When i classified her as a sniper/stealth type of mage i dont diminish how powerful fern is. All im trying to say is that mages like the control girl, wirbel, old mage can beat her. Heck even frieren says she cant imagine winning against a proper water mage under rain. Most fans are just saying x is stronger, they will win and thats just wrong in my book

can

I mean the last two big fights she's had she got jumped and just overpowered them so I don't know that her being a "sniper" is entirely an accurate depiction xD I feel like it's pretty straightforward that despite her misgivings she far surpasses everyone there except maybe the vets like Denken, purely on her experience as Frierens students

The Force

Also for Serie it's worth noting that they only started doing the mage training stuff in the last 50 years, Flamme died in "legend" somewhere around 1000 years ago, so Serie did come round to helping but not for a long time even by elf standards. I imagine they have a reason we don't understand for it yet, since they're making it into a very elitist organization, maybe trying to *re* restrict magic through that? Frieren mentioned earlier in the season you used to see way more mages around soooo

The Force

My favorite comment I've seen with regards to Serie and Frierin is "I only trained her on a whim sounds an awful lot like it was a mere 10 years."

The Force

To me it's clear that Frieren and Serie don't like one another (because their views on magic are nearly polar opposite, Frieren's basically echoing Flamme's, who Serie disagreed with)... but as fellow elves and mages they respect the hell out of one another.

All the "folk magic" that Frieren is collecting as a hobby are basically all the spells that Flamme would've loved, like her flower magic. Not sure if she just inherited her love for magic or if she does that as a way to honor her master. Probably both. I'd call Serie a magic elitest, probably.

Honestly It's so rare for Freiren to use anything other than basic spells because they broke the old mage dueling meta. But this fight having her cut loose and using stuff we've never seen before is some of my favorite shit in this series. She is going gloves off with the heavy hitting spells and it a god damn spectacle to see. Also her acknowledging how fucking scary she can be because she is so brutal and cold in a fight. She doesn't hesitate, she doesn't react with remorse or pity, it's go for the throat at all times, and she has a shit load of power to back that brutally efficient killing machine up.

I think fern is a really good sniper type mage and thus could be in disadvantage against mages that expect her . It could be that the remaining mages could beat her in 1v1 if they arent taken out in the first seconds of the fight

can

I like the symbolism of Freiren facing the sunrise, and Serie turning her back on it. Also, I wonder which of the remaining mages will get to face the replica of Fern. Scary!!

Carl Rigney

and yet Serie still remembers the favorite spell and aspirations of "just a student she trained on whim" who "were unable to understand each other until the end". Like Serie can say she doesn't care all she wants she clearly does

Kaydo

I absolutely love that the first couple of seconds of the duel is the two Frierens having defensive magic flickering in front of them as they try to sus out/bait the other. Feints and feeling out your opponent is pretty common in fencing, but it´s really cool to see it done in a magic duel. I think that my favorite thing about this whole arc is seeing more of magic and the realization that what we have seen so far is mostly just the basic form of combat magic, and that there are entire schools of other combat spells than Zoltack out there. So seeing Frieren starting blasting for real is incredible. Grandma Serie is such a fascinating character. I do wonder if the main reason elves always seems so aloof is because their mind is wandering through their memories at random moments. I can imagine things just start to blur together at some point.
