2024-03-09 00:14:42 +0000 UTCThe only parts of this that were filler was the addition of everyone bar Usopp, Nami and Robin as contenders in this race (of the crew). That is for these episodes. Like, this is my least favourite arc of the series (because of Foxy, I just hate him) but it's honestly not that terrible. Skipping this whole arc is probably a terrible idea as it sets up some world building that comes into play later, and the end parts of it has a great lead-in to the next main arcs. It would be better if they hadn't stretched it out a few extra eps (it's not 20 eps long - there's another filler arc added into that count, which doesn't have the bonus of being part canon).

There really is no threat in this arc, except it would be embarrassing to lose to these guys.

2024-03-08 20:59:44 +0000 UTCOne of the things I love about One Piece is the fact that we have a very emotional flashback about a loyal animal companion staying behind as its family leaves to wait for its owner, while a child cries for his grandfather. And it is all caused by said grandfather being a total idiot who decided to live out his dreams utilizing his incredibly poor planning skills.

That is why so many people dislike this arc in the anime. It works MUCH better in the manga. In the manga there was no G8, so this was supposed to just be a short breather between 2 massive arcs

2024-03-08 15:10:38 +0000 UTCThis whole arc is an homage to the Hanna-Barbera cartoon from the 60s called Wacky Races and is supposed to be silly. It would have been fine as the 5 or 6 episodes it was intended to be but the anime added to it and stretches it out to 20 episodes. By the end it really over stays it's welcome.

2024-03-08 13:18:12 +0000 UTCfunfact, this may the first time we see foxy in the anime, but you already partially saw him in the live action. he was on one of the wanted posters luffy and koby were checking out in the first episode, alongside some others like our friend from jaya, bellamy. but yeah, foxy and long ring long land is widely considered to be the worst one piece has to offer. the anime didn't do it any favours either by stretching it out way too long. still, it's not the worst thing in the world and can be enjoyed in its own right, as long as one is willing to keep an open mind and go along for the ride.
