I actually completely disagree that Usopp didn't take being a pirate seriously. Aside from Luffy, Usopps the only one who has someone dear to them being a pirate, and cares a great deal about them.
I think the main issue is that Usopp, Zoro, and Robin are the only crew members without important, non-combatant roles on the ship(at this point they don't know how important the poneglyphs will be), and even still Usopp is separated further by being far weaker than Zoro and Robin. The only role Usopp has had up until this point is fixing merry, which has now been shattered by the fact that merry can't be fixed. He literally feels like there is absolutely no reason for him to be a part of their crew if the merry can't be fixed. So, not only is Usopp struggling with merry being a friend that they have to let go, but his inferiority complex is through the roof at this point.

Sanji kicking Luffy was not based. Luffy was getting heated, but it is still his prerogative to decide who is on the crew or not. Sanji ultimately did the right thing by cooling Luffy down, but Usopp is the one who brought it upon himself in the first place.
At this point in the story, the most significant difference between Usopp and the rest of the crew (bar Chopper, albeit for different reasons) is that even as goofy as they've been at times, especially Luffy, they all take being a pirate seriously - even Zoro and Nami, who did not care to be, or even hated pirates before meeting Luffy.
Usopp, on the other hand, is effectively a civilian who is caught up in the romanticism of the adventure and lifestyle of being a pirate, but he's otherwise been more of a travel buddy of the Straw Hats that plays at being a pirate captain, rather than being a fully committed Straw Hat. He loved Luffy as a friend, but he did not respect Luffy as his captain.
The Going Merry was not, and it has never been, his to call as his own - until Luffy gave it to him. The Going Merry is the ship of the Straw Hat Pirates, of whom Luffy is the captain. Yes, there was a lot of pain in this situation, but it was ultimately Luffy's decision to make, and Luffy's alone.

I’m an autistic dude who was diagnosed with Asperger’s back in the late 1990s. I’ve been watching/reading One Piece since late high school, and I turned 30 this year. Maybe because I’ve seen friends go through mental breakdowns, every year I understand every character in this arc more and more. And it still hurts all the same. Thank you Alicia for giving me this new opportunity to enjoy OP in a new light. Especially with how readily you empathize with the greatest of characters— Luffy, Soup, and more

Naw dawg, both of the were wrong, and what if merry is an inanimate object? The ship talks... IT TALKS! doesn't that mean something to you?

Honestly, Sanji had no reason to kick luffy. They are all friends. Yes, But by the end of the day luffy is the Captain and they are his crew, he can't have someone Contradict what he says, because ussop isn't in charge. This is at the point were they need to be serious. It isn't a game with fun prizes. It's real, and if they don't change they'll die sooner rather than later... so as a friend should he have said it no. But as a captain it makes sense why he would. If it didn't. I feel zoro would have stopped luffy from saying it.

18:35 we have already seen Horn-Point, it was a while back during the fight versus Miss Merry Christmas, Mister 4 & Lassoo. Considering Chopper fought alongside Usopp this is a really heartwarming detail, I only noticed now during this rewatch. (Btw: I might be wrong on this, but I believe Chopper hasn't used Horn-Point between then and now)

It's crazy how fast things escalated. And I get Usopp's side even if I don't agree with it. After the money thing he feels like he's not pulling his weight and the Issues with the ship hit at the absolute worst time. He feels like he will be discarded just like the ship.

Usopp just went into a spiral of seeing himself as the weakest together with seeing Luffy "abandon" a crewmember who couldn't pull their weight or fulfill their purpose - he put himself in the same "boat" as Merry and this is where that lead... It's so sad to see him go. ALSO the gang got the info how Merry was "terminal" from the faces of the shipwrights - Usopp got it as an afterthought AFTER hearing Luffy's decided to get a new ship... miscommunication is a hell of a thing

Another thing to remember is that to Usopp the Merry isn't just a member of the crew. She was also a gift from his childhood friend and the last connection he has to his home other than his slingshot.

when the strawhats go for a walk shit's about to go down. But seriously, I just love how f'ing cold everyone is during this scene. They're not going into a berserker's rage, they're filled with a cold fury to let the franky family know this is personal, it's not throwing a fit, it's about revenge pure and simple. They sent one of ours to the hospital, we're going to put you all in the ground, even if they don't kill them they thrash them worse than most mooks that cross them

Merry to usopp is like the Straw Hats to luffy or wado to zoro it's a precious treasure from his precious friend how can you accept him to be reasonable and the fact he lost the money the shame of being weak and he related himself to merry is not helping, we all knows that Luffy made the right choice for the crew safety and usopp should accept it but we can't blame him , this teenager is going through allot of shit.

All I’m gonna say is Usopp was completely in the wrong here by disrespecting his captain and being very in-denial, even if they see Merry as nakama that still doesn’t ignore the fact that Merry is an inanimate object that has a limit to how many times it can get fixed.

Oh boy, more One Piece.
Sees which episodes it is: Oh boy... more One Piece.
Fuck, the whole Usopp situation is just rough. It was rough to read when I was a kid and it´s perhaps even rougher to watch now. As someone who have been involved in the discussions and the decision to put down family pets that were getting too old or too sick, I can´t help but relate to both sides of it.
I am utterly fascinated by the fact that we almost never get a glimpse of what actually goes on in Luffys head. What sort of thoughts did he have as he stood on top of the ruins of the Franky Family House, and pondered their situation. Or what sort of thoughts went through his head during the entire Usopp situation. There is so much to write about that whole thing, that I am not even going to, out of fear of risking going into spoiler territory.
Speaking of the ruins of the Franky Family House, Zoros and Sanjis conversation. I think some of my low-key favorite moments in One Piece are when the two of them just go into professional mode. Listing their problems, discussing solutions, trying to figure out what happens next. Completely without their usual drama, just two people analyzing the situation and trying to figure out how to best support the captain and crew.
