Put that on a phantom thief in a detective setting and you get the classic larcenist that doesn't care about locks whatsoever. Not a bad move from Oda to place it on an assassin either. That combo is terrifying if you think about it.

The stuff going on is still dramatic and terrible. Then again, I can't handle shows that gorge on death and torture at all so I suppose it's a lot easier for me to be taken by the more 'quaint' acts of brutality as well.

If you see "he" or "she" or anything, in subtitles, that is almost always just localization people making completely random assumptions just because they don't really care about whatever problems it causes. That, or they take arbitrary issue with simply using ambiguous language. While subtitles generally have less of an issue with localization than actual dub scripts, it certainly still happens. Or rather, Japanese doesn't even really have directive subjects in their sentence structure, much of the time. Part of why romcoms always pull that trope where someone just says "suki" (literally just "like"), and then there's confusion over whether they were implying "I like *you*" or "I like fireworks" or "I like your hands." Because unspecified subjects are kind of the norm, a LOT of Japanese comedy (and sitcom-type setups) rely on those kinda of misunderstandings. Oddly enough, the only case where gendering or pronoun use in general tends to happen is with first-person forms of address. However, that's more because certain forms of address tend to be used for certain people. "Watashi" is a way of saying "I" or "my" that is seen as feminine and demure (or very old-fashioned), and yet All Might uses that. "Boku" is considered to be how boys say "I" or "my", i.e. Boku no Hero Academia, and yet "boku no ko" specifically means "girl who uses boku," and it's seen as a potentially cute tomboyish thing. So, like, even THAT isn't -really- so specific. But anyways. I'm also a total amateur, so this is more of a random language nerd's ramblings, rather than someone properly fluent. Just one of those things I always think is neat to share when possible misunderstandings arise. Having a ton of fun with the Water 7 reactions, and super hyped for the biiiiinge! ^^

To be fair, that was what actually saved Iceburg, but the plan DID work, why reveal it? It would've been much better IMHO if Lucci and Kaku, being shipwrights, were able to assess that the blueprints were fake on their own instead. Also yeah, Kalifa in the anime is kind of a giveaway, for the voice in particular.
