I enjoyed all of One Piece, filler included. I watch it for the full story and everything about it, not just to speed through or get to the next epic scene. For me there are no bad arcs, I just simply enjoy anime. I've even watched the other big anime like Naruto and Bleach and enjoyed every single minute, including all the filler. I've even enjoyed some movies that others say are the worst. Everyone thinks differently so no anime will ever please everyone. Even some of the top anime probably have some people that think it's terrible.

I will say, as a warning, to your rant about how skypeia killed your one piece boner, that the next major arc, Thriller Bark, can be the same way for some people. It's just unfortunate because it's like a 5 or 6/10, but is sandwiched between quite possibly two of the best arcs in the anime. Like skypeia though, it has amazing moments, sets up lore and characters, and the end is amazing but the arc as a whole can be a bit of a slog. There's a reason Skypeia and Thriller Bark are the two most skipped arcs when people rewatch/reread the series.

Honestly, as much as we can clown on all the Navy train passengers, I still gotta respect T-Bone. He's an almost too empathetic dude who is legitimately in the service because he wants to help and protect the people; and he cares about all of his subordinates. Sadly, that's a rare thing in the Marines, so it's nice when you do get to see it; even if he fugly.

If you ever feel like you want to give up the series. Reading that specific arc in the manga or swapping over to one pace instead I can recommend. Manga is well paced, one pace is also well paced. Some people disagree with One Pace but honestly its made by people that love the show and want people to not dread watching it.
While I personally like Skypea as a whole, the pacing of that arc is so bad. But there are more arcs in the future that do have some bad pacing too. Its the animes fault, not wanting to take breaks when they catch up or when Oda has been away for a while because of the income loss.
You will notice how during Enies Lobby the episodes will have a long ass recap every episode, so the episodes are basically halved if you cut out the intro + recap + outro.

I actually ended up dropping One Piece during WCI, believe it or not. Up until that point I had been binging One Piece regularly 'cause I just loved it so much. Finished all the movies by that time, except the ones that were releasing. It took me some time to catch up, off and on, as well. I don't remember how much time had passed when I stopped watching, but Wano was knee-deep into Act 2 of the arc.

i can telll you exactly where: 31:39. and no, it's not that she doesn't enjoy it, everyone has different taste after all, it's her attitude that's the issue. acting as if her own personal opinion is the only correct one and that everyone else is just a bunch of delusional liars, blinded by their nostalgia.
and it's not just about one piece, but an issue i have with alicia in general. if it was only this one time, I wouldn't mind. but i've watched her for several months now, through several series and her being disrespectful towards and trash talking others is a contant issue throughout all of her reactions. it's the one thing i can't stand about her character.

Nah, we emphatically disagree on Skypiea and that is okay. I love Skypiea because, for me, One Piece is a manga first and a supplemental anime second. Reading Skypiea, for me, was a joyous adventure. At that specific moment in real world time, the manga story of One Piece was about fifty chapters ahead. I think this made Skypiea a big deal when it comes to seeing One Piece brought to life with animation settings. It was the first time this whole "supplemental anime" concept clicked with me; the first time non-canon details helped me to better understand canon ones. This perspective is not unique to me, yet it's definitely a product of circumstance. I happened to be introduced to One Piece via an art book, picked up the manga from there and the Skypiea arc - in anime form - did not yet exist. Sorry for the block of text. I'm on mobile and attempts to create a paragraph break will likely submit an incomplete comment instead.

As soon as Oda centers an arc around more heavy themes the anime usually sucks. Thanks to watching anime and manga reactions/reviews I know enough first time readers that have Skypiea as one of their absolute favourite arcs– but I don't think I have ever heard this from a pure viewer.
So I sincerely hope that Wit reaches Skypiea and Long Ring Long Island with their adaptation. Until then the only hope for Skypiea are the fan edits and perhaps the live action.

I'm a manga reader, I don't watch the anime but I watch your reactions and I only half agree about Skypiea. When I started reading (a few months ago) I only ever seen people say skip Skypiea but once I read it, it was a damn good arc. Yeah, there were parts that felt way too long or too boring but overall it was a good arc. The anime always has a pacing issue from what I can see which can also contribute to the feeling that Skypiea isn't good.

Skypia is an important arc because it sprinkles a lot of subtle lore and things that might be called back on later on, zoro developing his flying slashes, the introduction of merry's spirit and so on. One piece does this a lot btw, characters and references made 100's of episodes ago become relevant or slowly build up the world its lore and characters. Its really amazing tbh. But yeah it was a bit of a slog.

I swear I watched Skypiea back when I first got into One Piece, but I remembered almost none of it except for Enel when watching your reaction. I just finished Dressrosa which is an even longer arc and also suffers from having to be dragged out, but I feel like with it there was just enough in each episode to keep me entertained. Skypiea just felt like something you had to endure and at times suffer through to get to the good parts.

Not sure when she accused people of lying, and not sure when she was being disrespectful by suggesting nostalgia maybe being the reason some people liked Skypiea (I don't agree with it either, but it's not disrespectful). It's actually just that someone said something negative about something you enjoy. Skypiea was an important arc, but not an enjoyable one for me either. This arc is what one piece is about. The character development and deep dive, the story telling, the stakes of not succeeding all with it's sense of humour is why one piece is the best for me.

Yeah, I have to call bs on your statement.
Saying people only enjoy Skypiea because of nostalgia is complete bs and extremely disrespectful to the preferences of other people.
To me, one piece, or really any story, is about two things: the world building and the characters.
I'm the type of person who in a video game talks to every NPC, does every single side quest and uncovers every single corner of the map to learn every piece of the game I can, and, when it comes to the shows I consume, I read every supplementary book, listen to every audio drama and watch every movie I can.
You can tell me the pacing in Skypiea is shit as much as you want, but I honestly couldn't agree less if I wanted to. To me what you call a waste of time and a slog to get through, is merely just more world building and an opportunity to learn more about the world and story I love.
If that's not your thing, fine. To each their own. But accusing others of lying because they don't share your personal preferences...
Well, nothing new there, I suppose.

Also, I hope that Alicia won't ever feel like dropping One Piece ever again. Whether someone liked Skypiea or not is subjective, but the "pacing issue" of it (i.e. the survival game) was only in part an issue with the actual plot, most of it was an anime's problem. And anime Skypiea still adapted like 2 chapters on average. Modern One Piece anime sagas adapt 1 chapter per episode and sometimes even only HALF of a chapter. I personally dropped the anime and stuck with the manga for that reason, so I hope that would not ruin Alicia's experience.
The silver lining is that Skypiea felt dragged out because BOTH the plot and the anime adaptation dragged it out. Hopefully, even if the anime will drag its feet even more in the future, the plot will still carry on the enjoyment.

I don't like Skypiea JUST due to nostalgia tho. I'll admit, even in the manga it suffers from bloat. but its one of those arcs that kinda ages like a fine wine i think. Also it had the unfortunate fate of being THE arc where the anime started catching up the manga (thus G8 and the extra content in LRLL)
but its a fun arc i think, moreso to read where the pacing is my own reading speed
